Chromoly Steel Turnings 9 Switched over to the Trinity detectors on the @thermosciemspec Apreo for the last two posts in the steel turnings series from @mzank shop floor. The black and white images are there, swipe to the second two (of three) for the source of the color. Mineral Garden 2 From the stark but flat contrast of the backscattered electrons collected by the T1 detector, to the shape and texture of the combination of secondary and some backscattered electrons combined with the pure ghostly secondary electron signal that the T3 collected a distinctly unique and unknown sample takes on some color. There were a few minutes in the day, enough time to ponder what to look at, found an old sample, took a quick look. Took many more images than planned, this was the first though. As always, the unpredictability of what is found in the SEM is thrilling and excites me. And even this full unknown about what it is or where it came from, the memory and documentation of the little 'rock' long since lost and forgotten.
