Hey folks, I'm really sorry to be asking this but I am dealing with a family issue that is keeping me away from work, so I will not be able to to make the money I need for some basic necessities. Because of this, I'm looking for ways to make some extra money this month just to keep things comfortable. I'm doing gigs where where I can, surveys for money, chores, whatever I can get to really but it's not adding up. Because of this I am offering any online services people might need that I am capable of. I have a Bachelor's in psychology and can edit and check papers, give advice on secondary education and applications, I'm happy to tutor, anything like that. I would also be happy do some low price art and writing commissions, anything really. I'm hoping I can make an extra $200 by the end of the month, but anything is appreciated. Sadly, the contract for @fordprfct has come to an end, and he has to find new work. (although 4 years for what was supposed to be a 1 year contract isn't bad - and they jumped through hoops to keep him when his former contracting company was rejected.) I've seen through his coworkers' reactions, he's VERY good at what he does. Jobhunting is much more unpleasant. I have a passion for writing, a love for reading, and the desire to help you make your manuscript the best it can be. I have just over a year experience in line editing and I’m happy to have the opportunity to extend my services to the public. My prices are more affordable than industry standard, reflecting a lack of formal training.
Line editing focuses on the creative aspect of your work. I’ll ensure you are achieving the tone, emotion, and clarity you’re aiming for. I’ll point out where scenes may have fallen short, gotten bland or repetitive, or may be confusing for the reader. I’ll check for tense-switching, run-on sentences and paragraphs, and dialogue that could be polished. Though I’m not a copy editor, I’ll gladly make note of any spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors that I see.
I will strive to never leave comments that offer no direction for a fix. If a comment of mine is confusing to you, I have a policy of open communication. You have unlimited access to message me and ask for clarification and support.

Sensitivity Reading
As a sensitivity reader, it’s my job to go over your manuscript and check for any harmful stereotypes and language used in regards to certain marginalized identities, then help you figure out how to fix the harmful content. Specifically, I will read for characters that are:
Disabled - dealing with chronic pain, chronic illness, invisible illness, undiagnosed symptoms, disease that fluctuates in severity, autoimmune disorders, gastrointestinal diseases, joint pain, taking multiple medications (I have not used mobility devices with enough frequency to feel qualified to offer services for characters with mobility devices. If you’re seeking sensitivity reading specificially in regards to a mobility device, someone else will better suit your needs)
Low income - working poor, unemployed, on disability, on welfare
Female - listed for those that are concerned about the way they write women (I am cisgender and do not claim to understand the experiences of a transwoman, an agender person, or a genderfluid person. If you’re seeking sensitivity reading for these identities, someone else will better suit your needs)
I recommend you get more than one sensitivity reader, since we’re people speaking from personal experience. What one person may not recognize as offensive or harmful, another might.
Due to the emotionally taxing and potentially vulnerable nature of sensitivity reading, my prices are higher than those for line editing, though still more affordable than what I’ve read as industry standard. I choose to charge slightly less because I want to offer a more financially accessible sensitivity reader. It is highly unlikely, but there may be some situations where I won’t take on your manuscript.
I will not read stories that include rape.

For stories up to 50,000 words: CAD $0.0045 / word (USD $0.0035)
For stories 50,001 words and more: CAD $0.004 / word (USD $0.0031)
Industry standard seems to be around CAD$0.0065 (USD$0.005) per word, sometimes including flat rates added onto that, sometimes not. I support other readers and believe they are entitled to charge what they do. Their work is valuable and should be treated as such. My work is simply charged lower because I want to offer more financially accessible reading services.
Line Editing & Sensitivity Reading Together
I will happily do both for you, on the same project, at the same time. Instead of simply adding the costs together, I’ll offer a slightly reduced rate. I’m a writer too, I understand this stuff can get expensive.

Important notes:
I will always charge according to the Canadian dollars (CAD) listed. I work through paypal. It will do currency conversion for you if you are not Canadian.
For a full manuscript, I charge 2/3 up front, and 1/3 when complete.
For chapter by chapter (or piece by piece) I charge for each section as I receive it up front in full.
On the rare chance I am unable to complete what you’ve sent me, I will send you a refund for whatever I did not complete.
Please maintain realistic expectations for return time. I will give you updates on progress intermittently and/or as requested.
