✿ What do you think about public call out posts?
…hm. well ! i’ve never had cause to make one, but i think there’s certain circumstances in which they’re useful––––like, if somebody is legitimately abusive & has a pattern of hurting people, i think it’s important to document that publicly ? because abuse thrives on secrecy & obscured history & access to a factual record of what an abuser has done in the past, backed up by written or recorded evidence, can go a long way toward protecting people from them.
thaaaat being said they’re also really dangerous ? definitely there’s a phenomenon of like, counter-callout posts ( & preemptive counter-callout posts ) made by abusers as a means of self defense / discrediting their victims, so as valuable as genuine callout posts can be it’s extremely important to take all of them with a grain of salt, read through any provided evidence––––& be particularly wary if there’s not any recorded proof––––& just, you know, approach with skepticism rather than leaping to conclusions.
& related to that, i guess, with callout culture there’s always the possibility of people getting whipped into an angry mob, & that leads down all sorts of ugly & potentially dangerous roads.
which brings me to the last part of my thoughts on callout posts, which is that i think they represent a lot of room for misuse of callout posts / callout culture generally. i think when you get into areas of tumblr––––not the rp community so much, or at least not the corner i inhabit–––––& callout posts start to become kind of ubiquitous or very common, there can be a temptation to jump straight to callout posts as a reaction to conflict, rather than viewing them as the nuclear option. & if that happens it really dilutes their usefulness & scales up the opportunity for misuse pretty significantly.
so i guess, tl;dr, i think they can be a useful tool for dealing with serial abusers, but the risk of misuse & the very real risk of actual abusers wielding them as a weapon to silence their victims makes me very wary, & it’s really important to evaluate each one carefully before making any decisions. & the mob mentality that can come along with them is never okay.
❧ Have you ever been jealous of anyone?
not really, no. partly this comes from being drawn to a lot of more obscure / little fandoms, so usually i’m the only person playing my characters & there’s simply not anything to be jealous of. mostly though i just… i’m not a terribly jealous person ? i’m pretty laid back about most things & if i get upset with someone, it’s typically because of something they did, not so much being jealous of them or of what they have. ( more broadly, i also don’t really get jealous of things irl either. )
