Eiyuden Chronicle was the game I finished after Engage and I randomly started thinking about it again because I just do that. I think I'm seeing a pattern in which characters I like and why

Nowa, the guy in red, he's a serial meddler. He doesn't know how to not help people, and Alfred's guilty of that too. They keep getting involved in things because they just can't help it. It's in their nature. Actually, both of them watched their homes burn down

Seign, the blue guy, would get along well with Diamant and Ivy. Like both of them, he wants to see his nation reform, and like Ivy specifically, he needs to betray his nation to save his nation. His only option was to defect to remove a tyrant from power

Marisa's in green and she's the most emotional of the group. Not in a hysterical way, but when she feels something she expresses it openly which helps her fit in with Alfred and Timerra. Interesting enough, she also has to save her home from the clutches of the undead like Ivy so that's fun

Perrielle isn't actually listed as a main character, but she literally pushed the plot into motion. The game exists because she exists. She's your first companion just like Alfred. Timerra and Perrielle would be besties because they love indulging in food and fashion and are more cutthroat than their friendly personalities would suggest

Where's Seign's mount? It should definitely have wings like Chandra and Aleior

What about a pegasus? Seign looks pretty princely. He could pull off soaring on a pegasus like a knight in shining armor

Nowa, Seign, and Marisa might be my new favorite trio of video game protagonists

There are a lot of video games with three main leads, but a lot of them have one member who ends up being less prominent than the others

Each of them are important in their own way, and the narrative would fall apart if you took one of them out of the game

Seign is a noble from the same empire that's currently trying to conquer the continent. He's torn between honoring his family or following his morals and actively challenges the direction Galdea's going in

Marisa's a guardian who was trained to guard the ancient runebarrows from anyone who would exploit their secrets for personal gain. She's naturally opposed to the empire exploiting the runes for war

Nowa is just a normal guy, but that's why he works. Nowa's main character point is that he has a tendency to meddle in other people's problems and help anyone he can. After his village gets burned to the ground by the empire, he's the one who rallies the resistance to keep fighting against the odds

The three of them just work so well with each other

For multiple reasons, I wish Eiyuden had lightning as its own element

First reason is Suikoden nostalgia

Second reason is that I think that wind and lightning are too different as elements to put them together in most cases

Third reason is specifically for Seign. His unique skill is already named after lightning, but since it's wind elemental, he ends up overlapping with Marisa. Plus, Seign is a foil to Nowa, and setting them as fire and lightning is a good dichotomy

I don't care if it's suboptimal. I had to give Nowa a rune of conflagration because I gave Seign and Marisa pure water and tempest runes

I even slapped arcane magic on him so he could actually deal damage with it
