what’s the deal with the seinfeld au?

i’ll regularly allude to it but i haven’t actually really discussed it in depth, so here we go

it’s a dumb little au i have where all of the dghda characters live within the seinfeld universe. it’s that same sort of sitcommy setup, wherein which todd’s apartment is kind of the “hub” and the gang gets together there to discuss their wacky hijinks and complaints about life. dirk kind of serves as kramer here, ie this weird guy who regularly creates absolutely absurd scenarios. todd’s kind of a combo george/jerry: he’s the straight man until he’s forced to go along with it, and like george he is absolutely pathetic. farah’s combo george and elaine, all of elaine’s general elaineness mixed with george’s self hatred. everybody has their agency job.

the entire crux of it is the fact that themes are the complete opposite, which sounds absolutely insane but HEAR ME OUT. seinfeld is about terrible people being unapologetically terrible. dghda is about terrible people actively making an effort to get better. it’s about change and growth and figuring out where u need to be. when u combine that idea with seinfeld’s concept of shenanigans being caused due to people’s poor choices, u kind of get this weird mix where everybody is going through insane shenanigans all of the time but they are also speed-running self reflection and healing whilst trying not to do, which is kind of what dghda is on it’s own but in this case it’s more character driven rather than universe driven. also it means that dirk gets to be a bitch more often and i need that in my life like i need air to breathe

seinfeld’s also known for being a “show about nothing”, which tbh i only think is half true but also plays into the seinfeld au being more character than universe driven. it gives the characters more time to just kind of… chill. they get to just go to each others apartments and point out witty things about life whilst growing as people and in their relationships with each other

SPEAKING OF RELATIONSHIPS dirk and todd are together and they got that way via s4 ep16 “the outing”’s situation. except they actually were gay for each other unlike jerry and george who are freaking COWARDS. farah and tina have this sort of elaine/puddy thing going on where they’re like on and off and farah finds herself regularly embarassed by tina’s shenanigans.

platonic relationships remain mostly the same as they were in show. amanda has a sort of george’s parent’s thing going on with todd except with more intentional effort on both of their ends.

tbh this whole thing just started as me seeing a bunch of seinfeld quotes that sounded like something some of the characters would say and then i had my “i’ve connected the dots” “you haven’t connected shit” “i’ve connected them” moment and it spiralled a bit. i just really like the idea of them having a sitcom rapport and being silly together.

I had to do this twice, because it's so tall when I went to resize the canvas I stupidly made it taller? So I added whitespace to the bottom, and had to resize it again, until I realized I was making it stretched out vetically. This isn't that tall, compared to my first try. Nex-

I did in fact think of that, that's why I have this disclaimer why Elaine and George are trying to stop Kramer, who means well, but we're not going to see Kramer try to convert Jerry. Kramer is his friend, he's just excited about learning a new name for Jesus Christ. Michael Richards the actor, not Jewish but the real Kenny Kramer is. I tried to make sure I'm not stepping on any toes, did my research into the show and I understand why you might think this is in bad taste but I'm do accept you could be righteously pissed off about it. Please accept I'm not trying to hurt anyone, we're here to laugh together.
