The site of the mighty Selectadisc Records, until 2009. Nottingham, September 2017.
Page from my personal journal: a review of Soho record store Selectadisc, from my trip to London, August 1995.
Another in a series of record store reviews from my UK trip diary, summer 1995. My overall impression of Selectadisc was pretty positive. In particular, I found a lot to love in the 7″ singles section:
Selectadisc (Berwick) New CDs, 7″es and LPs. Looks like a run-of-the-mill “indie” CD store from the outside (and name), but the secret here is the 7″ vinyl, tucked away in a corner near the back. Good selection of new U.S. and UK indie. A couple of things I saw here and no where else, esp. U.S. pop (FLW [Four Letter Words] label), the new Beatnik Filmstars 7″ on Mobstar, plus Slampt, etc. Bunch of fanzines. 12″ vinyl is more predictable, less adventurous, but good U.S. 12″/LP section. Credit cards—Amex only?
Interesting that I called out that the store accepted credit card(s). Hard to believe that, as little as 26 years ago, so many shops still operated on a cash-only basis.
“Forget Yourself” - RONIKA
Today was a hella stressful day but I got through my first day at my internship and I’m so excited! So, here’s a celebratory track when you need to feel legit for a few minutes (or a few hours if you have it on repeat like I do)
