Surviving periods
Menstrual periods can be rough, especially when you have them painful and heavy. So, I hope these tips and advice help you next time you’re on your period, and if you’re on yours now, Then stay strong and hang in there!
- If you have heavy bleeding, Then you’ve probably already thought ahead to wear clothes that are comfortable and lazy. However, to make sure you don’t bleed through your bed sheet, You may place a towel underneath you so you can avoid any period accidents. I’ve also learned that if you sleep in a fetus position, with your legs up close to your chest, It may sometimes avoid bleeding through too!
- If the cramps get too bad, Trg taking some medicine. Perhaps Ibuprofen or Advil.
- It’s best to try and not to eat too much junk, although it might be hard not to, especially with sweet cravings. Remember to drink lots of water and especially so during this time.
- If you’re craving sweets, The best sweet to eat is dark chocolate. Dark chocolate is beneficial for a couple things, It may lower your risk of cardiovascular disease too!
- Use a heating pad or an ice pack, Or if you want, Both! (Not at once)
- Try to avoid caffeine
- Get a full night of sleep if you’re able to. During this time, It’s hard to stay energized so that’s why sleep is so important now.
- Use a period tracker to help keep you reminded of how many days your period goes for and when you’re about to start and end. My favorite app which I’ve been using for years now, is called P Tracker with a little cut flower on it! It’s accurate most of the time and helps out so much!
- Take lukewarm showers. Hot baths/showers can sometimes increase the heaviness of the flow, So try to stick to lukewarm.
- If you are going places, Remember to keep a few spare pads/tampons in your bag.
- If you can (or just wait a couple days to where your period isn’t as heavy) do some light yoga or some light exercise. It can be hard wanting to do anything on your period, but light yoga may help with cramps as well.
- Iron levels are low during this time, So it’s important to eat the right foods. If you’re vegan or vegetarian, Try eating kale and spinach to help with your iron levels. If you eat meat, Perhaps eating a steak will help with your iron levels as well.
- Avoid tight clothing. Around this time, Most of us will feel bloated (and that’s okay!) so true avoiding any tight clothing in which will make you uncomfortable. Stick to slightly loose clothing instead.
Stay strong loves and remember to always take care of yourself. With much love, ❤️
