Residents who took part in a 7-year-long program to grow a massive community fruit forest watched in horror as government goons destroyed it.

Literally, the only plan that I have for the future is “what kind of old lady do I want to be?” I want to be an old lady living in a cottage, have a garden and chickens, and make everything. I’ll sew my own clothes, make my own cheese and jam, etc... When people visit there’s always homemade treats.

This dream won’t happen on its own, so I have to learn to do all of that now. Hopefully, this will motivate me for once in my life.

Lupi Cafe in Vancouver is a Zero-Waste cafe that also gives out free produce. I would absolutely lose it if I saw all these --and for free. Not only food for me, but food for my chickens!

why americans let americans starve

because we DESPERATELY need to believe there really is an unavoidable punishment for opting out of the pyramid scheme that we call capitalism, so we can feel less guilt and/or can feel more satisfaction with otherwise unsatisfactory life-choices

because we can only comfortably operate on the belief that our survival is earned through our own agency, instead of a lucky inheritance people before us had to fight to achieve

because we’ve been convinced that calorie-rich, good fresh food is a mysteriously sourced privilege and not a literal nature/god given right to the whole goddamn concept of being alive on this earth with all this tillable soil, and,

on the opposite end to that we’ll assume that if people were really ever that hungry, they could just go ten miles out of the city limit and start a farm, and why would any bureaucracy stop them from such rugged individualism?  surely, the hungry are just lazy!

because we are growing up starved, and that never has a good impact on mental development like higher reasoning skills or critical thinking or impulse control.

why americans let non-americans starve
