This year, I really tried to live a selfish year immersing myself in every single thing possible. Traveling here and there, exploring one place to another, and doing some silly stupid things on the side. I definitely made some not so good decisions but that's okay because it taught me a lot of things. A lot of pretty great stuff has happened all throughout the year and I'm so glad I did the things I did. At some point, they had to happen for me to be able to learn something from it and transform me into a better person.

I'm still on this big journey to self-discovery, and self improvement trying to head on a path that will hopefully lead to a better me. But contrary to living the selfish years on my 20s, I feel like I haven't really been selfish in some ways. This year was not just a year about me and being a self-centered person but rather finding out what more does the world has to offer. I'm just trying to take advantage of every opportunity that comes my way. Doing things for myself that would eventually benefit me in the long run. It has been a splendid year I must say.

Exploring interests, establishing strengths and defying weaknesses, pursuing passion and making dreams into reality. That's what this year was all about for me. I've gone through some rough patches but luckily, I was able to survive them. I wouldn't be half the person I am today without those experiences and the people I've come to encounter during those stages of my life. I've never felt so alive to be honest not until I felt how it was to really live.

Do not be afraid to try out new things and go beyond the limits. Even if you make mistakes along the way, having to experience things will help you learn and make you grow as a person. Do not confine yourself in the four corners of your room and start living outside of the box. Challenge yourself to great adventures even if it means pushing yourself to the limits because it will make you a stronger person.

They say that your 20s is a year for you to be selfish. Although being selfish does not necessarily mean that everything should only be focused on you and only doing the things that will make you happy in expense of other's. Make self decisions while still being responsible of your actions.

"Selfish years"

My twenties will not be my selfish years, 

My time will not be spent on late night with friends, rather my time will be spent of on late nights reading journal articles in the basement of a university.

My twenties will not be filled with carefree weekends, my twenties will be spend with my nose to the grindstone each and every weekend.

I will not be establishing myself in my life, I will be becoming lost in research and knowledge.

 If all goes well, at 22 i will finish my undergraduate degree and be accepted into a grad program, at 24 i will be finishing the masters portion of my Ph.D, and at 28 i will stand to defend my dissertation.

From there i will likely have several years of post-docs or supervised work before i can begin my life beyond school. 

When i am just reaching my 30's i will just be finishing my first round of education.

None of this is why my twenties will not be my selfish years. living your life is not selfish, it is not selfish to put yourself and your needs first in your life, because learning, working, or simply existing, living is not selfish"

Your 20s are your selfish years. Old enough to make the right decisions, young enough to make the wrong ones. Be selfish with your time -travel, explore, fall in and out of love, be ridiculous and silly, stupid and wild. Be 20-something.

There will be days when things seem to be falling apart. But I'm happy. I'm happy that everything happens for a reason. And I'm happy of the person that I am becoming each and every day. I'm happy where I am in life.

I always give a speech to my friends about how these are our selfish years but I need to take my own advice. I need to be more selfish. I've always been a selfless person & being that way, right now, is killing me. I deserve to be selfish. I deserve to think of myself first. I should be selfish with my time & energy. I should be picky with who I want to spend my time & energy on. I have been making decisions with other people in mind & how it'll affect them. But I need to start making decisions for ME & live for ME before its too late. Forget everyone else. IM YOUNG! Like wtf! What other time than now to be selfish?
