Prompt- Fake date
Pairing- Bob Reynolds x gn! reader
A/N- Bob being a wee bit oblivious, slightly insecure reader, Yelena being iconic as always. This one would’ve been out way sooner if I didn’t waste my time making burnt banana brownies but alas
Word count- 793
“Mhm yeah” you nodded along. “Yep I'll be there” you said.
“Ugh no Susan I won't bail” you groaned as you hung up the phone.
You pressed your free palm to your face and groaned in frustration.
For the past fifteen minutes, you'd been speaking to your friend,Susan who was inviting you to her wedding.
“What's going on?” Yelena asked as she stretched out her legs on the coffee table.
“It was my friend” You sighed and jumped down on the couch next to Yelena.
“She wants me to come to her wedding”.
Yelena raised an eyebrow, “Then what's the problem?” .
“Oh is she one of those mean girls who sabotaged you in high school?”.
“What? no” you furrowed your brows. “You watch too many of those 2000s teenage movies Lena” .
“Then what’s the problem?” she asked.
“It’s just that-“ you sighed. “Everyone in that friend group is married or at least in a relationship and they always keep lecturing me about how I should also find someone” you rolled your eyes.
“Eh it’s really annoying everytime I go by myself,” you admitted.
“I can be your date” Bob’s voice came from a corner.
You stilled
You blinked rapidly, unable to comprehend the sentence. Was Bob actually-
“To the wedding,” he added. “I could pretend to be your date to the wedding”.
Oh
“Riiight” you slowly nodded. Ignoring the pang of disappointment that struck your chest when you realised what he was actually suggesting.
He set his book down and walked over to you from his reading spot.
“When is the wedding?” he asked.
“It's uh…” your mind went blank. “Sunday”.
“It's this Sunday,” you said.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” you asked. “I mean” you raised a shoulder. “You don't have to if you don't want”.
“No I’d like to come along” he offered you a smile. “To help you out”.
“If you want,” he added.
“Yeah sure that'd be-” you nodded. “it'd be nice”.
“Well this should be fun” Yelena muttered from beside you, without looking up from her phone.
When you went to the wedding, Bob slipped into the role of your boyfriend surprisingly well, too well.
He remained by your side at all times, holding your hand and once even placing a kiss on your check.
You were sure your heart did a somersault in your chest.
Your friends even joked about how he was way too good for you.
But deep down, you knew they were right. He was perfect in every way possible and you, well you were you.
“Thanks for helping me out today” You spoke as the two of you quietly walked.
“Of course,” Bob offered you a smile. “I love helping you out whatever way I can” he slowly lifted a shoulder.
You smiled as you looked up at him.
“I have to say though, you played your part really well” you quietly chuckled. “Miriam even joked about how it’d be our wedding they’d be attending next”.
Bob lips curled into a frown, “Oh” he choked out.
You slightly furrowed your brows at the change in his expression, puzzled as to why the statement made him upset.
“She-“ you parted your lips. “She just jokes around like that, don't think too much about it” you tried to explain.
“Don’t worry you don’t have to pretend to be my boyfriend again” you pursed your lips.
“Yeah” he exhaled.
You frowned
But that was when you realised.
He was still holding your hand
“Bob?” you managed.
“Yeah?”
“What’s wrong?” you asked slowly, hesitation lingering in your voice.
“I wish I didn’t have to pretend” his voice was small, trembling. He spoke quietly, afraid as if the world might shatter if he spoke too fast, too soon.
You stopped in your tracks.
Your heart stopped.
He met your gaze, searching for a reaction, searching for soome sign that you agreed.
You looked back up at him, “Me too” you confessed.
He blinked, “Really?” he asked.
”Yeah?” you nodded, a smile crept onto your features. “I wish we could have something like today…. everyday”.
He smiled too then, a satisfied grin, “yeah me too” he nodded.
His hand reached out for your face, his thumb gently grazed over your skin.
You leaned forward, and so did he.
And when your lips met, you could’ve sworn the world stopped. Just the two of you, standing on a quiet pavement, as if you had all the time in the world.
“ Igotta call Yelena” you realised as soon as you pulled away.
Bob pouted, “Why?”
“Cuz she just won a bet” you chuckled,
“Alright, but after this” he laughed before he slowly wrapped his arms around your waist and kissed you again.
