Genre: Sad/Angst
Warnings: this is right after infinity war, focused on Aunt May so yeah uh peter is gone, everyones turning to ash so it's death but like ash death yknow
---------------
She didn't know what was happening. All that she knew was that Peter should’ve gotten home hours ago, and that he wasn’t back. He had gone on a school trip, but hadn’t returned.
She had spent hours pacing the kitchen, worrying, trying to comfort herself by saying that it was probably nothing. Just some traffic. Nothing to worry about.
But the hour grew into two hours, and she finally left her house to drive down to the school and find out what happened. She had hardly stepped outside when she realized something was terribly wrong.
Ash spiraled through the air, and the streets were much quieter than normal. Then, she saw it. A man who was hurrying by her turned to ash, blowing away in the wind, leaving no trace of his presence.
She got into her car, but her heart had started to race and her hands were sweaty. People were turning to dust around her, vanishing, and she didn’t know why.
Shaking with nerves, she drove to the school, blocking out her surroundings as best she could. All she could focus on was finding Peter and making sure he was alright.
But when she got to the school and learned that the field trip bus had come back hours before, without him, her heart sank. Thanking the principal dully, she drove back home, hoping that a miracle had happened and he was there. He was Spider-Man after all, she reassured herself. He was fine. He had to be fine.
She kept her false pretense of waiting for him to come back up until when she went to bed.
In her heart, she knew he was gone. She didn’t know how, but somehow she knew that he was, the boy she had raised as her own son, and he wasn’t coming back. She was alone.
