haikyuu + coffee shop au for your event?

haikyuu + coffee shop = akaashi keiji !
no exam day was destined to go perfectly. there was always the possibility that something would go wrong—you studied the wrong chapter, forgot to bring a pencil, or didn’t have enough time to finish the final question. you were usually affected by the little things, never anything that might cause you to fail.
but today, it seemed like everything was going wrong.
the internet in your apartment was out because of a storm the previous night. you had hoped it would be fixed by now, but you’d be lying if you said you didn’t have a backup plan. expecting the worst, you planned on going to a nearby cafe that offered free wi-fi. the background noise might be a little distracting, but if it meant you’d be able to take your exam, you were willing to suck it up.
so you packed your bag and started on your walk to the coffee shop that was located only a couple blocks away. as soon as the bell above the door rang, you were met with your second obstacle of the day.
the place was packed.
your eyes scanned the shop for an empty seat. your search seemed fruitless until your gaze fell upon a small table tucked away in the corner. you rushed over and settled yourself, pulling your laptop and its charger out of your backpack. though, there was no outlet anywhere near you. it shouldn’t have been a problem; you charged your laptop overnight and were confident enough in the material that you figured it wouldn’t take too long to complete the exam.
so with that, you clicked on the “begin” button.
everything was going smoothly. the multiple choice questions were a breeze. the short answer ones took a little more thought, but they were nothing you couldn’t handle. you were sure that the rest of this process would go as expected until a notification popped up on your screen.
your battery is running low (10%)
you might want to plug in your computer.
“shit,” you mumbled under your breath. this shouldn’t have been happening. you were positive that the charger was connected to your laptop before you went to bed. but now that you thought about it, you didn’t remember unplugging the cord from your wall earlier that morning. it must not have been charging after all.
your mind raced to find a solution to your problem. the cafe wasn’t any less busy than it was when you arrived, so picking a new spot wasn’t an option and you weren’t sure that anyone would be willing to trade you spots. still, your eyes wandered along the walls seeking an unoccupied outlet. once you found one, your gaze shot up to the table. to your surprise, you knew the person sitting there. akaashi was on the quiet side, but you recognized him from one of your shared lectures. the seat across him in the booth was conveniently empty, too. maybe he’d be willing to help you out. you quickly gathered your belongings and made your way over to your classmate.
“hey akaashi!” you excitedly greeted him.
he looked up from his notes at the sound of your voice. he wasn’t expecting to see you outside of class. “hello.”
“sorry to be a bother, but can i sit here? i’m in the middle of an exam and my laptop is about to die.”
he nodded, dragging his notebooks and folders closer to him to make space for you on the surface.
“thank you! you’re a lifesaver” you dropped your bag and set your laptop on the table before sliding into the booth. “i’ll be quick, i promise.”
akaashi wanted to tell you to take as long as you needed, that he didn’t mind having to share the booth with you, but he kept his lips zipped so you could focus on your test. it already looked as though you’d had a rough day; he’d hate to be an additional burden. so he silently skimmed through his reading, jotting down the important points and peeking over the frames of his glasses to get little glimpses of you. you looked cute when you were concentrated.
“all done!” you let out a sigh of relief as you closed your laptop. “thanks again, i appreciate it.”
“it’s really no problem,” he reassured you.
“if you say so. but i still feel bad for barging in so suddenly. it looks like you had your own stuff to work on.” you gestured to his mess of books and papers. you were sure that he came here with the intention of having this table to himself. he was so kind for allowing you to invade his space. you wanted to return the favor.
“have you ordered anything?” you nodded your head in the direction of the counter.
he shook his head, “no, not yet.”
“let me treat you! you know, for being so nice even though i was troubling you.”
“you weren’t troubling me,” he insisted. despite his words, it was apparent that you weren’t changing your mind. he didn’t want you to think that you were a disturbance to him, but your offer meant that you’d spend some more time with him. he was always so unsure of himself to ask on his own, so this was the perfect opportunity. if this is how it had to play out, then so be it. “but i could use a coffee.”
