Wow. Uh... I don’t know if I should go on with this one or change it entirely.
I hit upon a great idea, (I can’t call it fantastic, because that is entirely the wrong word to use) for this character’s personal darkness...but I worry that maybe I’m taking it down a path I shouldn’t.
Without saying much more, I’ll say this; If finished, this backstory/origin/personal story for this character would have so very much TRIGGER WARNING painted over it that I’d have to make that the entire first few paragraphs, as well as an explanation. The story would be beneath a ‘Keep Reading’ fold for sure.
I don’t even know how to approach this one. I understand some of the dynamics involved, but... I don’t think I have the internal dialogue, the internal rationalizing and emotions on it yet. And believe me, there’s almost no way for me to get that from anyone. Holy crap no. It’d require me to ask someone to go into a very, very dark place in their own mind, probably a part that they’re either trying to suppress or one they’ve finally gotten away from, and tell me in detail what it is like so I can write it properly, to do it respect. Because that’s what I’d want to do. It’s very much a condition, and it deserves to be respected, in person, and in writing. I might be wanting to use it for a story, but I am very aware and sensitive to what it can and does do to people.
...the fact I can’t bring myself to put a name to it publically should tell you how sensitive it is. There are news articles written about this very thing, but they’re from the point of view of outsiders.
