Rey drummed her fingers against the balcony railing, elbows bent lazily by her waist as she fixed her eyes on the scene below her. It was a bustling cantina, not unlike the three others she’d already scavenged for Force sensitives, and the tingling sensation in her spine gave the new Empress a sly, certain feeling that this would be the one where they finally found him. 

“Empress Rey, we have located him. He’s across the bar.” A stormtrooper quipped behind her, hesitant to come too close lest she take special notice. They’d come to learn, in the few short weeks since Snoke’s murder and Kylo’s imprisonment had given the First Order a new leader, that when Rey took a special interest in a soldier, Kylo Ren’s violent outbursts seemed preferable to her unmitigated rage. 

Though one might never know it from the sleek, laden black fabric that wrapped her like an elegant shadow, the burning image of polite restraint. 

She ascended into the crowd, snaking between drunk off-worlders and locals bartering for rides and credits, until she spotted him. He was small, like her, and surely just as quick. If she didn’t approach him cautiously, he might outrun her, and then she’d have to use the Force to make sure this drawn out chase produced something worth its effort. And that would make convincing him to join her a formidable setback—one she couldn’t afford. 

“What if I told you,” she sidled up to him, “that I could make you very, very rich?”

If her intel was correct, he would be amenable soon enough.
