A little while ago, I remember reading this post regarding Kaho's relationship with Seo by a Tumblr user named Fumiko-Matsubara.

I have to disagree with some of the things op is saying here, and I also want to add my own thoughts.

I do agree 100% though that Seo is a toxic boyfriend, though, and he has been verbally abusive towards Kaho.

What I don't agree with in this post was that the op tried to make Kaho more innocent than she was. And I think there were a few things the post overlooked and ignored about Kaho that mischaracterize her.

For one thing, she wasn't scared of Seo's temper, and there is some evidence for that.

For one thing, it's the cheating. If Kaho was scared of Seo, she would not have been cheating in the first place. She would have been way too terrified to even talk to another boy. Especially out in the open.

So yes, her reaction to her getting caught wasn't a "Oh no, my boyfriend is going to kill me." It more of a "Shit, I'm caught."

The other evidence is the way she talks to him when they start feeling the drug take effect.

You could argue by saying, "Oh, it was an emergency. She wasn't thinking straight. Her urgency to use the bathroom outweighed her fear of Seo."

And, okay, fair, but let's look at the scene after their breakup.

Kaho was shown briefly in the baseball chapter. She was flirting with another boy in class A (Seo's class, mind you), and when she noticed him, she straight-up glared at him. Not something most people would do if they found their ex terrifying.

Also, according to the graduation album, Kaho and Seo still talk to each other even after the incident. And they both talk very harshly to each other.

The only times she was nervous around him was when she was almost exposed as a cheater.

No cheater wants to be exposed for being a cheater. Especially if you're dating someone from the top of the school.

Other than that, she did seem pretty comfortable, even smiling around Seo. She wasn't only happy around Maehara, as the post mentions.

The post does mention that there is a power imbalance in their dynamic. Seo is not only a Class A student, but also rich and one of the big five. He could ruin her reputation at school if he wanted. But they did break up in an awful and embarrassing way; yet, she seems fine and is seen flirting with another guy, and gave Seo a dirty look.

Fumiko mentioned in another post that the extreme power imbalance between the two of them gives Kaho no choice but to date Seo at his demand. And yes, that is possible. But that is just a headcanon. The truth is, we don't know how their relationship began.

You know what's also possible? That it was Kaho who approached Seo first.

Let's look at this way. Kaho is in a class that is overlooked and isn't known for its grades. If Kaho wants a better social standing in school without putting more work into her grades, she could date someone from class A.

Asano would never date her. Ren dates every girl but doesn't take them seriously. A relationship with him won't last long. Araki doesn't seem interested in relationships, and Koyama was definitely not an option. I don't think I have to explain myself lol.

So Kaho's best option was to date Seo. He was a virtuoso, but he's also, guess what? He's also rich.

Let's not pretend it's impossible for Kaho to be a gold digger. Does she seem to be the type to go after cute guys like Maehara? Yes. But she also wants a better social standing, and a guy with money is a bonus for her.

Seo may not be her type, but should that really matter if the guy comes from a wealthy family?

In the movie, she did seem eager to talk about a trip Seo brought up.

Imagine being a middle school student, dating someone who's willing to bring you on trips for free. Sounds great, no?

It's also another reason she'd be so desperate and worried to hide the fact that she's a cheater. If the students found out she cheated on someone who is supposedly higher than her in the food chain. Her reputation would be ruined, but she would also lose dating the guy who would buy her free trips and probably other things.

Is it possible for Seo to have been verbally abusive towards her? Yes. Possible. But let's play devil's advocate for a moment.

Before the whole drug incident, we hadn't seen Seo be outright cruel to Kaho herself. Remember, the only time we see her outright uncomfortable with Seo was when she was almost exposed as a cheater.

During their date, they seem to get along just fine.

There are guys out there who are somewhat decent to their girlfriends in the beginning of their relationship, only for them to reveal their true colours later. The drug incident helped speed things up.

As I pointed out before, Kaho was never uncomfortable around Seo. During their date, she was having a good time and joined in on insulting Kayano and Nagisa (when they were dressed as an old couple). I can see why they get along. They are both awful.

To me, even though it's canon that Seo makes others uncomfortable, I don't believe Kaho is one of those people. She can be rude and arrogant, just like Seo.

I can see why they keep looking for each other throughout the years. They were the only ones who can put up with their trashy personalities.

Overall, this is how I see their relationship. Two toxic teenagers who were still somewhat in the honeymoon phase of their relationship, but thanks to class E, their ugly side came out, ruining their relationship. But, despite all that, they still like each other and their toxicity.

I hope no one takes this post and says I'm trying to disprove that Kaho was in a toxic/abusive relationship. She definitely was. Or that because Kaho was the one who wanted to be with Seo, the abuse should be watered down. God, no, that's not what I'm trying to say.

I just wanted to discuss things that the post didn't mention about Kaho. And I was also bored.

What Would the Virtuosos Do if They Found Out that Seo is Insecure?

Can y’all believe that I never, in my entire tumblr life, thought to ask myself this question up until @ninah13 brought it up? This was originally gonna be a reblog to this post, but it turned out to be longer than expected, and honestly, it deserves to be it's own post.

So without further ado, here is what the Virtuosos would do if they learned Seo was insecure:

Gakushuu

Gakushuu immediately figured that Seo was secretly insecure; why else would he brag about something that's not as impressive as people assume it is? How many people have traveled abroad and learned not only English, but multiple other languages, too? You're not special Seo.

Gakushuu back then thought it was a pathetic but useful weakness to exploit should Seo step out of line or become a problem. He mostly kept Seo around because of his connections and because..well, Seo is a virtuoso, he worked hard for that title and therefore deserves to stand among the elites (whether he realizes it or not). Gakushuu couldn't care less about Seo's rude personality so long as it doesn't affect him personally or the Class A's grades. So what if his classmates disliked Seo? They will encounter many Seos in the real world, especially in the workplace. Don't like it? Work harder so that you can be the one barking out orders.

After maturing and realizing how much he actually cares about his minio– friends, Gakushuu decides to build Seo’s self-confidence (and maybe fix his attitude a little) by ordering encouraging him to try out new things, and bossing him around giving him more tasks so that he feels like he’s a valued student council member.

And no, Gakushuu isn’t doing this out of pity; he does genuinely believe that Seo is capable of being more than just “the guy who’s been to LA with superb English skills,” Gakushuu just doesn’t want to see someone’s potential go to waste (at least, that’s what he tells himself)

Years later, he’ll look back and be grateful for Gakushuu pushing him to improve himself.

Seo, unsurprisingly, is NOT happy about this. He is one order away from plotting Gakushuu’s murder. Sure, he's happy that his leader is relying on him more often, but he's not a lapdog! Someone tell Mr. Good at everything that Seo has a life outside of school!

Ren

Now Ren may be eloquent, but he wouldn’t try to help Seo by telling him how great he is. Like Gakushuu, he knows that words won’t help someone like Seo. Instead, Ren would try to make Seo feel valued and included by asking how he’s doing, encouraging him to try the things Gakushuu demanded recommended he try out, and so on. He even lends Seo ear for when he wants to vent.

Ren sometimes had a feeling Seo was…overcompensating for lack of a better term, but he wasn’t sure if it really was insecurity or just Seo's personality; he was too nice to ask. If he were to find out Seo really was insecure, it would be from Gakushuu.

And if he catches Seo feeling down for whatever reason, Ren will whip out a poem from his “Cheer Seo Up Poems” folder and rid his dear insecure friend of his sorrow and replace it with cringe– lots of it!

Yes, Ren can be a troll, and yes, Seo wants to kill said troll…assuming the cringe doesn’t kill him first.

Araki

I headcannon that Araki immediately thought Seo was cool when they first met. He'd ask him loads of questions about LA, English, and American media franchises. Seo, of course, loved the attention he was getting (and the ego boost!), which eventually led to them becoming genuine friends. Araki, however, never realized that his friend's boasting stemmed out of his insecurity, and Seo sure as heck wasn't about to tell him out of fear his new friend would think he was a loser (projection).

So imagine Araki’s shock if he were to learn that Seo is actually insecure. He wouldn't understand because to him, Seo is really cool. And so, like a good friend, he’ll tell Seo just how cool he is and list his awesome qualities in an attempt to raise Seo’s self-confidence. Sadly, that doesn’t work. In fact, it has the opposite effect because Seo feels like it’s coming from a place of pity (again, projection). Seo’s problem isn’t that he thinks he’s talentless, it’s that he’s constantly comparing himself to his friends. Grades? He’s almost always the least ranked Virtuoso. Bilingualism? Have you seen how many languages Gakushuu can speak? Connections? Gakushuu has those as well–plenty, even. Lived in LA? Gakushuu’s probably been to countless other places.

So yeah, Seo’s grateful for Araki’s attempts, but this approach just doesn’t help. Seo will even pretend to feel better just so he won’t have to hear any more “pity praises."

Koyama

Koyama didn't think it was insecurity. He just assumed that Seo, like the rest of them, was proud of himself for excelling in his favorite subject.

If Koyama ever learns that Seo is actually insecure he’d be pretty confused and would bluntly ask him why? He’s smart, has lived in LA, is bilingual, learned to play the guitar in a short amount of time for the festival, has connections, and is the speaker of the student council, and takes shit from no one. Plus, if we include all the other stuff Gakushuu made Seo master, what reason is there to feel insecure? Does Seo not see how ridiculous his insecurity is?

Seo appreciates the bluntness. Koyama’s words don’t feel like they’re coming from a place of pity like Araki’s, they might give him an ego boost, but they won’t help in the long run because as previously mentioned, Seo’s actual problem is that he’s constantly comparing himself to his friends (especially Gakushuu), so he doesn’t think the things Koyama listed are all that special. Still, he’s grateful Koyama tried cheering him up.

Seeing Gakushuu “encourage” Seo to try new things, Koyama gets inspired to do the same thing. So he offers to teach Seo how to do some really cool scientific experiments and that's how these two idiots got themselves indefinitely banned from the lab (Gakuhou claims it's indefinitely, but we all know it’s a permanent ban.)

In short, only Gakushuu’s approach is the most effective. Ren’s approach loses points for the cringy poems he has cursed Seo’s ears with. Araki has good intentions but is unhelpful, and Koyama may be on Gakuhou's blacklist now.

As for Seo, he might not show it, but he really is grateful for the friends that he has, even if he wants to kill him from time to time.

AnKyou seiyuu / JP VA fun fact of the day:

The Japanese VAs for Gakushuu and Seo are apart of the seiyuu duo unit known as "SMILY☆SPIKY". The unit has been active since the year 2005. More of a comedy skit duo unit. Miyano (Gakushuu's seiyuu) is the "boke (funny man)", while Takagi (Seo's seiyuu) is the "tsukkomi (straight man)".

In that sense, you could say that their JP VAs are longtime friends. Yay!

I saw the movie!!!

Yesterday the movie got out in German cinemas and I finally got to see it! Of course I had my Koro-sensei with me.

My mom took a few pictures while I wan’t looking.

Anyways, I want to talk about a few scenes so if you plan on watching the movie and don’t want to know what happened yet don’t continue reading.

It was basically things that happened in the mange but sadly never got animated but I think you guys know that.

The scene from Valentine’s Day with Maehara and Okano:

It was finally animated 🥹 like, they are soooo cute! Now I’m not sure if I should ship Isogai and Maehara or Okano and Maehara… but I honestly don’t have to say much to this except them being cute

So you guys know me already and know I’m totally obsessed with the big five so now we talk about a scene with them. Not with all of them though… sadly most of them just appeared at the beginning once, I think it was in the trailer. I don’t want to spread false information but I think even Asano was just at the beginning of the movie, but I’m definitely gonna rewatch it soon. In that case Seo and Araki got more screen time than him, never thought that would happen. But do you guys want to know what scene was animated?

Kaho Seo and Maehara

I think you all remember it from the manga. The time where Kaho and Maehara shared and umbrella and met seo who was apparently Kaho’s boyfriend. It ends with Seo Araki (yes, he was also there) and some guy I don’t know the name of kicking Maehara. (I know Seo is like this, but I always thought Araki is nicer)

This is from the manga but it was also like that in the movie:

You can see how crushed he was, I feel so bad for him 🥺 but E-class got their revenge!You remember after that Seo and Kaho were in a cafe and Nagisa and Kayano came disguised as old people, Kayano mentioned a toilet at some shop but then went to the toilet in the cafe. Nagisa then dropped something to distract Kaho and Seo and then E-class shot laxatives in their drinks. I guess you can think what happened after that. Kaho and seo wanted to go to the toilet, but there was Kayano, so they had to run to this shop Kayano (the old lady) mentioned and even there they started fighting who got to go first… pretty embarrassing memory but they deserved it… what I wonder is if anyone witnessed it and if their classes (and Asano, Koyama, Ren and Araki) heard from it or if it stayed between the two of them, any ideas?

Yeah, I know Seo and Araki were assholes yo Maehara but I still like them, ok? If you hate someone because of bullying or treating others bad you also have to hate Terasaka, Karma, Asano (both) and plenty of others. And I think they partly got their redemption when they and the other five helped e class in the end of the anime, I’m sure they are better persons now! About Kaho I honestly can’t stand her, I don’t know if it’s the fact that she lied to both seo and Maehara and used their feelings or that she was seeing someone else while being in a relationship, probably both. I think seo should finally leave her, would be better for both. Maybe he should get together with someone else (Araki maybe 👀 I mean, I see them as best friends but sometimes I ship them… depends on my mood) I know it’s a weird ship and I’m maybe the only person who ships them but I still love them 💜 💚

But I honestly wished there were some scenes also with the other three and not just with seo and partly araki, but hey, at least we got something!

What also pissed me of were some voices, I don’t know how it was in the other languages but in German some voices just sounded off, I know they can’t get the same voice actors like in the episodes but they could at least have gotten someone that sounds like the former voice actors… at first it really bothered me but after watching the movie a bit I was able to ignore it, still was annoying.

Anyways, I really liked the movie and maybe post about it later if someone wants, but only after I rewatched it because I don’t want to spread false information from remembering something wrong. But really, can someone please tell me what they think about the question with Seo and Kaho and if people (especially the big five) know about this?
