Ive already made a post talking about the purpose of the sex scene at mai gu ridge, but now I want to talk about lbh's "manipulative crying"

a lot of people like to point at lbh and say he's a bad person for being a crybaby, bc they believe that his cries are mostly crocodile tears to guilt trip sqq into forgiving him or doing what he wants

what people fail to understand (bc they forget sqq is an unreliable narrator) is that lbh being a crybaby isn't him being manipulative, it's him being genuine with his feelings

he was always very sensitive, especially when it came to his shizun, but he didnt show it bc he thought he had to act cool, powerful and strong for sqq to want him and accept him, when he learned that this was only making sqq run away, and that sqq would value it much more if he was sincere, he started showing it, every time he felt sad, angry, happy, he would show it, and that's what made sqq finally stay by his side

lbh isn't manipulating him into staying, sqq is doing so bc now he can finally see lbh's true self without having to play guessing games

in airplane's extras we see that scene where he asks for advice, if Im remembering it correctly, that happens right after her makes sqq (now with his mushroom body) stay in the demon realm with him, and before tianlang-jun transfers sqq's soul back into his original body

and if we connect the dots, that's exactly when lbh started to act more like a crybaby and started being more genuine with his feelings, bc he was listening to sqh's advice, bc now he knows that sqq doesn't want him to act cool, sqq wants him to show how he really feels

"but he's still such a crybaby! he wasn't that sensitive when he was younger!" first of all we cant know for sure, since the book shows us only sqq's pov and in a very unreliable way where we cant trust everything that is said to us (like sqq saying he doesn't like lbh romantically when he was obviously just in denial bc he didnt want to accept himself as a gay man)

if you pay close attention to the scenes and dialogues of lbh, you can notice that he has always been sensitive about sqq, he's always looking for his praise and validation even when he was a young white lotus, he's always been like that, but he's very good at hiding his own emotions

lbh cries easily, yes, but that isnt him forcing himself to cry to guilt trip sqq, that's him finally showing his emotions and his vulnerability in front of the person he so much loves bc he grew up thinking that no one could ever love in, and he's still insecure and afraid that sqq one day will wake up and leave him

the only people who ever showed genuine love for him were his mothers, both his biological and adoptive one, but for a long time he thought that his biological mom also didnt love him

so when sy (not sqq, sy) showed up in his life and started showing that love again, he felt like he finally had someone to rely on again, and then suddenly that person betrays him by throwing him in and abyss where he suffers his worst nightmares

lbh might be an adult, but deep down he's still that little kid living alone and desperately looking for someone who'll take care of him and genuinely love him

before reading svsss I knew it was an I sekai novel but I thought whoever was the transmigrator ended up being luo binghe, so for me the story was that luo binghe (the transmigrator) would use his protagonist charms to seduce the scum villlain and turn him into a better person

so when I started reading the book I was with sy in the "SHEN QINGQIU????" bc "wasn't he going to lbh????😭😭" idk I think I associated people calling lbh the protagonist with thinking he was the protagonist of svsss not pidw

so yeah every time I saw bingyuan content I thought lbh was sy and I thought that sy!sqq was sj!sqq- so basically in my head svsss was like:

sy!sqq is actually the original sqq (aka sj doesn't exist) lbh is a transmigrator who, in his previous life, had sqq as his fav, so when he transmigrates into lbh he goes all over sqq trying to get into his heart, and ofc sqq being the scum villain, won't fall for the protagonist that easy, but they somehow do end up together in the end

since I didnt know anything else about the story, I didnt knew how they would end up together, but that was svsss for me before I started to actually read it 😭 I dont have any big idea to write anything about this but if someone sees this and decides to do so (even if just add anything else) go for it and tag me or send me a link ^^

edit: I wouldn't really consider this jiuyuan, it's more like a reversed roles bingyuan

okay so, I just saw this post and I know that what Im gonna say here isn't that person's situation, but still it made me think of that

a lot of people complain about how bingqiu's first time at mai gu ridge wasn't romantical, how it was uncomfortable to read and shit like that but like,,,,, that's exactly the purpose of it..?

yes, svsss is a romantic story with some drama in it, but pidw (the original story before sy transmigrated) is literally just porn, and the trope of "we need to have sex to save the world" or "we need to have sex or else I / everyone die(s)" is used a lot in pidw and we know that from what sqq and sqh tell us in the svsss

both svsss fans and even pidw fans (showed in airplane's extras) talk / theorize about lbg not even wanting / liking sex at all, he (and his wifes sometimes) didnt have a choice, either bc of those two situations I mentioned above it juts bc it was either having sex or having xin mo taking control of him

mai gu ridge is a scene that serves like a painful reminder, for both the readers and for sqq, that unfortunately even if he changed the genre of pidw, it is still originally a world run by porn logic

sqq didn't had an option, it was either let himself get fucked by lbh or everyone else dies and the world ends

lbh didn't had an option, he lost all his sanity AND was being controlled by xin mo

just like lbg or his wifes, bingqiu didn't had am option at that moment

it's not supposed to be a romantic or much less a cute scene, it's supposed to be uncomfortable just like how it is, it's not a good sex scene bc it wasn't supposed to be

sqq keeps saying how painful the whole things is, he's bleeding, and lbh starts crying from guilt as soon as he gets control over his mind again, in the extra of 100 questions to know each other, lbh doesn't even consider mai gu ridge as their first time, (at least I think it was him saying that and not sqq- I could be wrong tho) to him, their first time was at the bamboo house, in the bing-ge vs bing-mei extra

so yeah, if you wanna complain about it being a bad writen sex scene or an uncomfortable scene, maybe try looking at the context of all of it first

also, fucking hate when people blame lbh, he's as much of a victim as sqq!! I'm gonna say this again: he was being controlled by xin mo, he had no idea what he was doing, his body and mind were being controlled by xin mo, he had no idea what he was doing

saying that him crying later was to manipulate or guilt trip sqq is also some bullshit but I might talk about his "manipulative crying" on another post

anyways, mai gu ridge is meant to be a terrible sex scene that leaves u thinking "wtf am I reading..?!" and more of u should stop being fucking stupid (not a problem if u really dont get the meaning of the scene, but it is a problem if u complain about it just bc u wanted good sex and got unsatisfied with a scene that wasnt supposed to give u that!)

I dont judge shen jiu for all the murder and being a terrible person bc if I was locked inside a house being abused by a guy who was also forcing me into his sister and that made me loose some years of practicing my cultivation which lead me to being great but not the best just bc of those years I lost I too would go insane, kill a lot of people and become a resentful person for the rest of my life and I too would hate binghe for having the exact same opportunity that was taken from me
