Ok ok how do you think sephy would open up about his past? About his worries that he might not be human and about what all the scientists did to him? His childhood? Would he cry?

Oh man. Well first things first, it would take some serious trust to get him to open up like that. And even then, I think there’d be some fear over talking about it, because he doesn’t want anyone to think of him as less for this. I think he’s also the type that struggles to be vulnerable around others.

But once the trust is established and he’s been directly told it’s okay to talk about these things (yes I believe he’d need to be told that, since I also think he doesn’t want to burden others), he’d be more willing to open up. Crying for him… I think is rare. He’d only cry after a particularly stressful time period, maybe it’s a mix of these fears and work, and then maybe after some sort of treatment or procedure… that’s when he just breaks. Lets it out and then will pretend it never happened, until it does happen again. Especially after Angeal and Genesis leave… he probably cried a lot more often at that point.

Speaking of those two, canon-wise, they are likely the only people he ever opened up to. Yes there was the interaction with Glenn, but that was more surface level, I think. I’d like to think Zack would’ve been an excellent friend for this too, but when you think about it… there’s a 2 year gap there. As in, that time after Angeal died and Sephiroth seemingly just… disappeared for a bit. So sadly I don’t see their friendship being strong enough for him to open up. Which breaks my heart thinking about him being completely alone for 2 entire years, dealing with everything about his upbringing and now his friend’s death.

Which is where the headcanon stuff comes in. If he’d had someone else… literally anyone, to just comfort and be there for him in those 2 years… I think things could’ve turned out differently for him. Especially if they could’ve been there to actually help him in the Shinra Manor basement, rather than leaving after his “leave me be” request.

Man… he deserved so much better 😭

Sephiroth looked down the balcony from his penthouse in the 1st district, a perk from his title and status. While you cooed over the cat he brought home, knowing you were lonely from his long missions.

He'd been in his head lot, these missions felt back to back and slowly he was realizing what Shinra truly was and wanted. The idea that he wasn't really born but made, the idea made him spiral. Especially with everything going on at head quarters, he was given some time off.

Even then he couldn't get his mind off his own existence and purpose.

"Sephiroth?"

"hm"

"I asked what we should make for dinner"

"Oh, I uhm.. why don't we go out. I don't feel like cooking" he said turning back to face you and the ball of fur nuzzled up beside you.

"Where should we go" you asked putting down the cat, while meeting his gaze.

"Burgers, I'll cheat on my diet"

"Feeling down huh?"

He stayed silent, his gaze falling onto the cat rubbing itself onto you. Begging for more pets and cuddles, "yeah Shinra's just not fun at the moment"

"its a corporation that has a monopoly over everything, I don't think they've ever done anything postitive" you say walking behind him.

"Sephiroth, is something... wrong?"

He froze, he didn't know how to respond. He'd never told anyone about his thoughts or his past, all everyone knew was that he was a hero. Saving everyone, the poster boy, the strong masculine man every little boy wanted to be one day.

All for more toys to join Shinra and become the 1% of SOLIDERS who make it to 1st class.

"Just the next mission in my head, maintenance on the first reactor"

"Why do they need their number one SOLDIER to go, if it's just to check on the reactor."

Sephiroth paused picking up the cat, he didn't think of that. Why did they need him, they could send infantry men alongside a mechanic, and scientist. They didn't need to send him, unless it was for pr to give Shinra a good look.

"I'll ask about it"

Sephiroth ordered burgers, he ordered almost the whole menu. He said he was hungry, but you think he was just indecisive. You happily eat your chicken sandwich (yummy), feeling the cat a few pieces here and there.

"When I retire, where would you like to go?"

"huh?"

"After this mission, I said I was going to leave Shinra. I-I'm tired."

Sephiroth was being honest, he was tired of being a pawn. Used for wars and commercials, he disliked signing autographs, going to openings, being expirimented on. His entire life was a sham, they hid it so well from him too.

"I told Hojo when I'm back from Mt. Nibel I'm leaving Shinra, and he said they would support me. So where would you like to go."

His voice softens as he ends the sentence, looking down at the bullshit burger he'd ordered.

"Costa del Sol"

"I'll book the cruise from Junon" his lips curling into a small smile, "I was looking at houses in the countryside"

"you're an awful cliche"

He looked up in a bashful manner, "I think the movies I watched as a child influenced me. Escapades to the fields, raising animals, and watching the sunset with you."

"i just want to escape the city"

"I know, and we will"

Sephiroth relaxed, and smiled "then we should start packing, isn't that right tuna" he said scratching the cats fuzzy chin.

"I promise, to marry you as well. We'll have our happily ever after"
