The lights passed by the window slowly, droningly as the two teenage boys sat on the bus. The world was passing against them in slow motion as they waited for their stop, any stop really. Sephy’s hands were holding the seat between his legs as he sat muted besides the other teen.
Genesis wouldn’t look at him, wouldn’t even talk to him. Not since they had left. No, that wasn’t right. Genesis had left, packed his bags and walked out while their fathers were out, and Sephy had followed. He couldn’t stand to watch the older teen walk out on him, on them.
Family meant always being together. No matter how hard things got. Carefully he glanced up from the floor and looked over at the auburn haired teen. Genesis had his head leaning against the window, his eyes half closed as he watched the world race past them.
Trying his best not to look over. The runaway poet didn’t miss the very faint dip in Sephy’s head as the younger teen fought against his body to stay awake. It had been almost a year and a half since Sephy had been adopted into the fold of their little family, and each day had made things harder for the lone soul poet to stay solitary.
Even living with his two ‘fathers’ he had never had trouble keeping his distance. There was always space between them that separated him from them, and then Sephy had come along and broken that separation. Like a bridge between them; suddenly he was being drawn into a new family.
He didn’t belong to a family, he didn’t want a family. To many painful memories came with it, settling into the warmth of a home, growing use to the kindness of others, it only made it more painful when it was all pulled away. That is why he had spent so much time trying to push them away.
He saw Sephy’s head lulling again as the bus continued to leave their home. With a sigh he reached over and put his hand around the younger teen’s shoulders.
He didn’t bother looking at Sephy as he could feel those green eyes on him. “You are going to hurt you neck if you sleep like that. If you insist on following me, at least get some rest for when we have to start walking.” He muttered, knowing that Sephy was shocked by the fact that he was now accepting him. Eventually though that shock began to waver and the younger teen leaned his head against Genesis’s side. His breath’s falling even as he leaned as close to the warmth as he could.
Genesis couldn’t stop himself from smiling as he heard the slight hum from Sephy. He was content . . . for whatever reason, he had given up a warm home, given up two people that both loved him dearly . . . for nothing, no that wasn’t true. Given it up for him. Absently Genesis began to brush back the fly away strands of silver hair. “This will certainly be . . . an adventure.” He whispered
