Glad I saw your post. I can't play the game yet but I was wanting to romance sera first but the posts are scaring me off. So you didn't find her abusive? That's good. I also read that she makes transphobic remarks and is racist towards dalish elves and manipulates the player to give up on being dalish or she'll end the romance, is any of that true? Cause when I play I play a dalish. Thanks for your help, but feel free to ignore if the topic is upsetting

Ok, post contains spoilers. Don’t read if you don’t really want.

Sera has her own beliefs and she won’t continue the relationship if you are a dalish elf who believes in gods. Just like in real life some people believe in different religions and either they’re respectful and mantain their relationship or they break up because their views clash everytime. Sera is avoiding a trainwreck of a relationship here so she’ll ask your elf if she believes in the gods (Sera is Andrastian btw) to avoid the drama.

And mainly because she’s overal scared of gods, even if she believes in one. Her own words: “I’d rather not know”. I know, hypocritical on Sera’s part but that’s Sera. She has flaws and she’s complicated.

And no, she wasn’t abusive. At all. I’ve experienced relationships like Sera. The only time she yells at you is about the dream… which that got her in panic mode because she just came back from the fade (no idea what happens if you don’t get Sera with you, i assume she still sees the horrible dreams). Yelling at you for things is pretty normal in relationships. She’s scared she’ll lose you. Go get Sera with you in the Fade and explore the area good enough. You’ll make a discover about Sera’s fear.

And the “she is a he!” comment she made? First of all she talks about a person we have absolutely no idea who she/he is. Second, if Sera was a transphobe, don’t you think she’d be more disgusted than say, surprised? She never made a comment about Krem (who’s a happily transexual man), not ONCE…. and he’s constantly in the tavern and Sera lives just upstairs. Don’t you think IB would notice if she has said anything about Krem and lecture Sera? Nope, nothing of this happened. Personally i think Sera does not care if you’re transexual/gay/bi/straight/asexual/etc, that’s the whole thing i’ve gotten with her.

She will care if you have strong dalish beliefs (whom she hates. The culture, not the elves that is) and noble ones. Like, not helping the poor people and all that.

Lol @ racist. Hating a religion doesn’t make someone a racist. I personally despise all the religions, and still love people (as long as they aren’t preachy). Sera does not hate elves. It’s just so happens most elves are dalish.

Sera is warning you at first that she has different beliefs than your own is a good step to avoid a trainwreck state of a relationship. Many people do that, i know people who won’t date muslims and vice versa. Religion is a big problem, sadly.

She doesn’t want you to be “elfy” elf (like uptight dalish elf). She wants you to be just you and her. No religion/demon/noble ideas/ bullshit. I understand if your dalish elf have beliefs in their own gods though. Sera is best paired with dwarves, humans and much more better with qunari.  :)

Romance her, get to know her character carefully, hear what she says and you’ll understand her. If not, oh well fair enough. People have their own views and preferences. ;)
