the crow system originally split after finding their mom's body into kokoro, akechi, and ko-chan. it took them years to become aware of each other. kokoro was the obedient good little girl, akechi was the bad kid who constantly got them into trouble, and ko-chan is essentially frozen in the moment before they found their mom and doesn't age or understand what's happening to them.
akechi came up with the plan to take down shido when they originally awakened to their powers. he's generally not invested in being a good person because he views himself as The Evil One anyway.
kokoro isn't aware of the details of akechi's plans with shido. she dissociates and forgets whenever he tries to tell her about them. she knows he's up to Some Shit and has decided to assist him in his plans she just tries her best not to think about the details and deludes herself that as long as she doesn't have to do anything morally dubious it's fine. she's extremely invested in being A Good Person and living up to her mother's ideals so she can't tolerate anything that isn't aligned with that.
ko-chan generally does not front bc their body is distressing and confusing and they don't know what's going on at any time. they mostly just hang out in the background and talk to kokoro and akechi when they're bored. they ask where mama is and that it's been a long time since they've seen her and kokoro and akechi have run out of answers for them.
akechi and kokoro have both tried to explain to ko-chan what happened but they're incapable of retaining the information or truly understanding it. eventually they both decide their primary job is to do whatever it takes to protect ko-chan. both akechi and kokoro are trying to achieve ko-chan's dreams, just in very different ways.
crow sys have existed publicly as a man ever since shido enabled their transition and they started t (still haven't gotten any of the surgeries mostly bc they don't see the point (they'll be dead in a few years)).
because of this kokoro can't act as the detective prince (talks way too girly) and akechi's Absolute Shit at being nice or emoting in general. they originally plan on working together to perform (not an easy thing to do) but instead on their first show they both panic, dissociate, and detective prince forms (he is initially nameless). detective prince views himself as an extension of akechi and he's generally treated as a fake persona with no independent will by the rest of the system.
maruki erases all the alters except for detective prince. yay! what do you do when you're a mindless puppet who existed only to enact the will of another but you're the only one left and for the first time you're alone and have to make a decision of your own! third semester is a fun time.
no one is aware of ko-kun's existence and no one knows when she first showed up but she split from kokoro shortly after they partnered with shido. ko-kun gives no fucks and the only reason she doesn't get them into more trouble is that she likes being a secret. ko-chan discovers her first when they're looking for the others and ko-kun has sworn them to secrecy. (ko-kun is their cool secret big sis best friend.)
