notes: kai goes to see how seri is doing after the incident with other trainees, only to find out she's unfazed

“Hi!”
A familiar voice distracted Seri from her internal review of her last vocals class. She looked up to see who would be her maknae now that they were confirmed to be part of the debut team.
Kai happily settled next to her, giving her a hug and nuzzling his cheek to her shoulder. His actions made her laugh and ruffle his hair.
“Not that I don’t appreciate the affection,” she began, “but why the sudden hug and face squishing?”
Kai hummed a little in false thought, “I just want you to know that I really appreciate the fact that you’ll be my noona forever now.”
“I know a bunch of people who don’t appreciate that,” she gently pulled Kai off of her.
The young boy pouted upon hearing that. Of course he knew about the incident with the other trainees! How could he not know when Beomgyu made the not-so-smart decision of telling Yeonjun about it with the intention of keeping it between them.
Kai was pretty sure their entire floor of their new dorm was aware of the situation.
Besides, even if Yeonjun didn’t yell about it, word travels fast amongst trainees, especially when it involves trainees getting scolded outside of training. By the end of yesterday, everyone knew what took place and were actively reaching out to him and the other set members to share their support for their debut.
“They were completely wrong, noona,” he looked her in the eye. “Did they really think they could get away with attacking you like that?”
She let out a humorless laugh, “I don’t think that counted as an attack.”
“They backed you into a vocal practice room.”
Upon the deadpan look he gave her, she raised her hands in mock surrender. “Okay, we’ll consider that an attack.”
“Like I was saying, did they think they could get away with attacking Yeonjun hyung’s favorite little sister?”
“He doesn’t have a choice but to name me his favorite,” Seri began, “but what do you mean? Yeonjun oppa has nothing to do with this, it was Heeseung that got me out of the situation.”
Kai looked at her judgingly. Was she really not aware of the fact that she practically had Yeonjun wrapped around her pinky?
Yeonjun had told Kai and Taehyun once, when they asked why Yeonjun was so fond of Seri, and he had told them that it feels like he found a long lost sibling he wanted to take care of. That’s why the elder was quick to chew out the trainees involved right when he heard what they did.
That may have also been the reason all the trainees were aware of what happened.
“Nothing,” he decided not to bring it up in case Yeonjun might wanted to keep his newfound protective streak a secret, “I just think people wouldn’t want to mess with you because you’re close with Yeonjun hyung.”
She rolled her eyes fondly, “He may be intimidating, but he’s literally super friendly to all the trainees. He’s like Mr. Congeniality.”
So she didn’t know. Kai shook his head. They had the rest of their career together to learn how they would react when the other members were involved. He might as well let Seri enjoy while she wasn’t aware of Yeonjun’s overprotectiveness yet.
“Wanna come to the convenience store with me? I heard they have a buy 1 get 1 promo for pastries.”
“You already know me so well, my maknae.”
A grin made its way to Kai’s face when he heard what he called her. It was one thing knowing they were friends while she called him her maknae, it was another to know he actually would be her maknae in the same group.
Just for that, he gave her an offer. “I’ll pay for any pastries you want if you let me share bunk beds with you.”
“Deal! We can watch a movie later, too!”
Oh, Kai was going to enjoy being in a group with Seri.
