I'm kinda new to the bl world so could you/someone explain why some people think we won't get (more than innocent) pat&pran kiss scenes? Is it because of the channel? Because now when I think about it that one very popular series from the very same channel didn't have THAT special/"hardcore" kiss-scenes as well - especially compared to e.g. tharn type or why r u or similar.. or are there other reasons? lol sry for such a weird question I was just curious since I've already read about it for a few times now
So! Welcome to the BL world and, especially, the world of Thai BLs!
In this case... yes. That's it exactly. GMMTV is playing for a general audience. They're trying to get as many eyes as possible on their shows and they're mostly, frankly, focused on the YA audience... I think.
@absolutebl can probably explain this better and more factually.
But GMMTV is bringing shows for everyone. They're airing early enough in the evening that anyone can be watching TV (Bad Buddy airs around 2 hours earlier than Don't Say No did.) And that means that the shows are aimed at a very different audience.
GMMTV is making BL for 'everyone'. That means mostly soft romance, lots of humor (typically), not the deepest issues, able to watch very casually and very, very light on the high heat content... and by light I mean it's not there.
There will be a kiss, at least. Aof (the director) has been very good about making sure we get what we can/what we deserve in that area. But I expect nothing more than a few kisses and a lot of cuddling. Likely more than we got in Bite Me but that's an unfair comparison.
So, yes, there's definitely a reason we don't expect high heat from GMMTV. A few kisses? Cuddling? Maybe a scene where they're on the same bed but above the sheets? Yes. Much more? Unlikely. Maybe some on-bed cuddling.
I don't mind this at all, honestly, but other people are more bothered by it and it comes down, entirely, to your taste in shows. I like a kiss, I like hugs and hand-holding even more and high heat, while nice, doesn't make or break a show for me and definitely won't get me to watch it (see: how long it took me to watch Tharntype).
There ya go, anon! I hope this explanation works!
