The Littlest Miracle

It had been years since the war was over, but Seteth could still feel the reminders from before on his scarred body. He remembers how it was a hell on Earth without Byleth there, how he desperately protected Flayn but let his mind wander to wherever the Ashen Demon was.

Now, it had been years since their plight but it still felt so raw. It was Byleth’s idea to take a trip away for a while, to try and give themselves a semblance of peace. Seeing Flayn run amok the sea shore chasing gulls and collecting shells brought some ease to the old god’s heart, but those fears and doubts still weighed heavy on his mind.

His nightmares and doubts seemed like a never-ending cloud and even the sunniest days out here on the beach couldn’t dispel them. It was only her touch that quenched any worries or doubts. Her small hand that enveloped his, fingers that brushed through his hair, held his face. Hands that brought him to the edge and back in their pleasure, always a sensuous union in which their bodies were always intertwined with each other.

All that and more was the epitome of the new life Seteth built with Byleth. And now, there was one more that was to be the newest addition to their family. The news still didn’t feel real to Seteth, and he could still feel the voices from before rear their ugly heads.

He squeezed her hand tighter than normal that evening as they laid in bed, the questions overflowing from the cracks within his heart.

“Would I be good enough for this child?”

“Will it be as before?”

“What if I lost you again? I already lost you before, my family, my…”

He couldn’t finish the rest of his sentence past the lump in his throat, but it was the soft kiss she placed on his forehead that truly silenced him.

“Seteth, my love, I will tell you this and only this. You are more than enough for me. For Flayn. And for this child. You will never lose us again, and you will never have to suffer alone as you did before. I am with you, here and now.”

✨ Setleth Week 2021 Day 5: AUs ✨

I wanted to do some fanart for @sergeanthopeless's Reverse Card fic, which was the fic that got me back into fandom after years of lurking. It's a role-reversal fic where Seteth is the sketchy new professor and Byleth is the one trying to pry into all his secrets, which makes for delightful reading ❤️ This scene is from chapter 7 ❤️

Comfort and Joy

Christmas was equally a stressful yet cherished time of the year for Seteth. The university’s annual Christmas party always drew in a large crowd, along with an influx of food and wine that made spirits bright. Before, the tired father would have passed on these gawdy events, furthering his long list of excuses that mostly involved care for Flayn.

Nowadays, there was one he would make an exception for. A newfound appreciation that culminated into a blossoming love for the new professor that joined them this year. A quiet, charming woman that mostly kept to herself but still attracted the attention of those who passed by her office.

Be it a student, fellow teacher or assistant, Byleth had an air to her that always lit up the room. Seteth always considered himself a serious man, not one who got easily distracted. Yet, all of that was gradually worn down with every meeting. That was the thing about her, wasn’t it?

So unknowingly friendly and welcoming to all, it made Seteth a bit jealous that others looked at her with content. At first, he thought her unqualified, uncouth and given her youth, not the best candidate as a university’s professor. That was until he got to meet her, and slowly form an unlikely friendship with the young woman.

What started as pleasant greetings evolved into small-talk, then coffee breaks, lunch in the break rooms, to the after-hours whenever students clamored at the end of the semesters. The fleeting touches, eye glances, and pink blushes were their little secrets. Something that only a man and woman who were drawn to each other could confide in with each other.

He sees her, in the here and now amongst the crowds. How she smiles at him and he sees the emotins that befall her behind those bright eyes. She sees him too. A man that was once consumed by loneliness who let himself be open to the possibilities ahead. In a room full of drunkenness and revelry, it is only two souls who keep the secret of their love burning.
