"Why can't you be a normal person and not skip down the street like a child?"
You took a look at your brother's annoyed face and smirked, speeding up even more, all the while not even faltering in your skipping.
"Ahh, dear brother mine, that question didn't even make sense. When was I ever a normal person?" Your quiet giggles turned into a full laugh, as you watched your brother struggle to keep up with you without needing to jog along. His pride wouldn't let him.
"Never" He grumbled out "Fine, if you won't stop, then I'll make you."
He abruptly tried to grab you, and you shrieked with laughter, avoiding his arms while starting to run. His facade of indifference also broke, as he also started laughing, while chasing you.
Sprinting down the sidewalk, the both of you ignored the irritated glances and muttered profanities of the passerby's, as they stumbled to the side to avoid you. None of that mattered to the both of you; only the two of you did.
It had always been like this. Ever since you were a kid and your brother always made sure you were safe and happy, an extremely strong bond had formed between the two of you. One that had never been broken through all the years. He was one of the most important people in your life.
"You're getting old, Hyuk." You called back teasingly, while turning around the corner, nearly crashing into someone in your hurry. " You aren't running as fast as you used to" Although, you knew he could catch you in seconds if he wanted to. He just slowed down so you could have the satisfaction of being ahead of him.
The two of you had been on your way to a cafe when all of the banter had started and you didn't regret it one bit; moments like these were your favorites with him.
Turning around another corner, you arrived at an empty street. In a hurry, you stumbled over your own feet and started crossing the road clumsily, forgetting to check for any vehicles.
Halfway across, you heard your brother shout out to you, the urgency in his voice making you stop and turn around.
„(Y/N)! Get off the road. Get off the road now!“
Confused, you turned around, meeting his panicked eyes as he kept glancing between you and something to your side. Following his line of sight, you own eyes widening as your body tensed.
A huge truck was speeding towards you, honking to get you to move aside.
But you couldn't move. The fear had caused your body to freeze up, and you weren’t able to move.
You could vaguely hear Hyuk calling out to you, but you tuned it out, only focusing on the oncoming vehicle.
Your breathing became erratic, your mind shut down because of the fear, and you closed your eyes tightly when the truck was only a meter away. Suddenly, a body slammed into yours, warm arms embracing your body for a split second before you were flung away from them.Crashing onto the sidewalk, a sharp sting ran up your arm as you hit the rough ground.
Gasping, you snapped your eyes open just in time to see the truck ram into your brother.
Your chest constricted, as you watched Hyuk fly through the air -twisting and turning- before crashing onto the sidewalk with a sickening thud.
For a few seconds, the whole world seemed to stop, the only thing you could see being the limp body of your brother lying on the ground next to you.
All you could hear were your breathless gasps as the world began to move again. The blood rushed through your ears, as you frantically crawled over to kneel next to him.
Hyuk's arm and his right leg were bent in an odd angle, while a puddle of blood slowly started to form under his head, soaking into your jeans and countless little scratches and wounds littered his face and arms. Lifting his head gently, you ignored the blood running over your hands as you inspected the huge gash on the side of his head.
Tears started to form in your eyes as you hoarsely whispered your brothers name, setting down his head to shake him.“HYUK...Hyuk wake up! Wake up, please. Please“
Scrambling to your feet, you frantically reached into your pocket and pulled out your phone, only for it to be cracked and broken from your fall earlier on.
Panicking, you looked around, searching for something -someone- that could help your brother. You only came up with an empty road,
Finally letting out the first sob, you sunk on your knees again and pulled your brothers head onto your lap.
„Help! Help, please, is someone there? My brother is injured!“
You desperately screamed as loud as you could, considering your heaving breaths and hoarse voice.
„Holy shit, what the hell happened?“
You could hear heavy footfalls as someone came to kneel next to you. You looked up and saw a young man about your age, his face blurry because of your tears.
„ M-My b-b-brother...h-he got hit b-by a t-t-truck.“ You hiccuped unevenly, finding it hard to speak properly while watching more blood seep from your brothers head and his breath become even more labored.
When the stranger didn't respond, you looked up again to see him calling someone.
Standing up and walking a few steps away from you, he spoke urgently and quickly hung up the phone again after a few seconds. Rushing to your side again, he told you in a soothing voice that the ambulance was on it's way and that your brother would be fine.
Everything else was just a blur for you; You could just remember the ambulance pulling up and driving the three of you to the nearest hospital and then your brother being rushed to the ER while your arm was tended to, having been sprained from your fall. The stranger never left your side through all of this.
Even now, while you were slumped into one of the seats in the waiting room, he was quietly sitting next to you fiddling with the rings on his right hand.
Being somewhat calm now, you glanced at him, only now noticing how handsome he was; his brown hair was parted towards the side and yet still managed to slightly fall into his eyes. His pale skin made his lips seem eyen more rosy, and you had to pull your gaze away from them to not seem like you were staring. His white shirt showed off his muscled build and the red flannel tied around his waist made his seem even more handsome, and a slight blush rose to your cheeks, but you quickly snapped yourself out of your thoughts when you realized something; he had helped you so much, and yet you didn't even know his name.
You jumped when he suddenly spoke, his deep voice cutting through the silence like a knife.
„Huh? Oh..It's (Y/N)“You responded in a timid and tired voice.“And yours?“
„Oh..Well, thanks for helping us out there...“ You awkwardly trailed off, the worry for your brother still gnawing at your mind.
Noticing this, Seungcheol quickly continued talking.“So...How old are you?“
Smiling slightly, you answered, and so you both started talking. Even though it was mostly to distract you, you really enjoyed talking to him finding out more about each other.
But that didn't last long as suddenly a big commotion started in the ER, loud voices and a frantic heart monitor being heard through the closed doors.
You immediately stood up and rushed to the door, Seungcheol at your heels. Just as you were about to throw the door open, his hand enclosed your bicep, holding you back.
„(Y/N). You know you can't. It'll just distract the doctors. Just wait and see. Everything will be alright.“
His calm reasoning didn't calm your racing heart, but you still listened to him and instead started pacing in front of the doors.
You grew even more tensed and worried, when the frantic movement behind the door didn't cease, and then suddenly everything stopped and the only thing that could be heard was a long horrifying beep.
Your heart stopped along with your brother's, the only difference being that yours started beating again after a few moments of silence.
After a few moments of denial.
„This isn't happening...I have to see him!“
This time, Seungcheol didn't stop you when you made another run for the doors. Throwing them open, your breath hitched when you saw the slumped shoulders of the doctors surrounding your brother. No...the body of your brother.
Hyuk was gone. Your brother was gone.
As reality slowly hit you, you sunk to your knees letting your tears flow freely.
Sobs wracked your body, as you just sat there, looking at him.
Behind you, Seungcheol didn't know what exactly he should do, watching you crumble apart in front of him
He could feel the grief radiating off of you in waves -so much pain- that he wondered how you could handle it.
His heart clenched when he looked at your frail, defeated form kneeling on the cold floor, wailing.
Not being able to handle it anymore, he slowly approached you and then sunk down next to you. Placing his hand on your shoulder, he slowly turned you to face him and then gently pulled you into him, embracing you hesitantly.
You immediately wrapped your arms around him, burrowing your head into his neck; It didn't matter that you didn't know him at all, in this moment you needed a shoulder to lean on, and that was exactly what Seungcheol was doing for you.
As your tears soaked into his shirt, he tightened his arms around you, his warmth and comfort calming you down a little bit.
In that moment, as Seungcheol shooed away all the doctors who wanted to send you out of the room, he decided that he would stay by your side through all of this. As a friend whom you could trust.
So, even as your sobs grew quieter after what seemed like hours and you just slumped into his arms -numb from all the pain- he didn't let you go. Not even once.
By loosing your brother, you had gained someone who grew almost as close as him in a short amount of time; Seungcheol.
After your brother had died, Seungcheol had never left your side. He was there through everything; From the moment you told the rest of your family and friends till the funeral. He was always by your side and when he wasn't, he was constantly checking up on you, making sure you were ok.
And even after the funeral, unlike most strangers would have done, he didn't say his goodbyes and left without looking back. He always stuck by you, even when you tried to push him and everyone else away.
Somehow, he got you through your grief, stopping you from harming yourself and managing to put a somewhat rare, but genuine smile on your face.
And eventually, you became happy again, and all because of Seungcheol. He was your best friend and anyone who looked at you knew that there was a special bond between the both of you. And you loved him so much.
Unsurprisingly, through all of this you had managed to catch feelings for him. You hopelessly fell for him.
Thinking of it as a burden, things were hard for you around him. Seungcheol was a person who loved skinship, especially with you, and all his touches were not good for your heart; may it be a back hug or even something simple as an arm around your shoulder.
So, being the type to shy away from your feelings and trying to hide them, you started to try and distance yourself from Seungcheol. Something, that didn't go unnoticed by him.
In the beginning he let it slide -thinking you were just having a bad day and wanting to be alone- but when you continued to avoid him, he grew more skeptical and irritated. Still, he didn't do anything until you started to ignore his calls and shut him out; that pushed him over the edge. So, he decided to confront you.
You were peacefully reading a book when three sharp yet loud knocks were heard at your door.
„(Y/N), open the damn door.“
Seungcheol's angry voice startled you, and you desperately wanted to open the door to know what was wrong, but you didn't.
„(Y/N), Open the goddamn door. I know your in there, your playlist is on.“
Gulping in slight fear, you slowly walked over to the door, opening it just a little.
„What do you want?“ You mumbled, peeking at him through the crack. He was fuming, the tips of his ears turning a slight red.
Without giving you an answer, he just pushed open the door with ease, letting himself in. Stumbling at his strength, you quickly caught yourself on the wall and glared at him, while closing the door.
„What the heck? Seungcheol, you can't just barge in!“
You walked over to the living room, where he was pacing and crossed your arms, still glaring at him.
In a millisecond he had turned around, his glare surpassing yours; „If that's what it takes to even see you nowadays, then I can and I will.“ He hissed at you, startling you with how mad exactly he was.
„What do you mean?“ You avoided his eyes, not trusting yourself to look into them and letting them see the guilt in yours.
„You know exactly what I mean!“ He took a few steps toward you like an angry bull, and you took a few back, slightly intimidated. „ You ignore my calls, don't text me back, avoid me in every way possible and now you don't even want to let me in your house! And you still have the nerve to ask me what I mean?“
Seungcheol wasn't a person to get mad easily and even when he did, it was never directed towards you; now you understood why all the people who had previously faced angry Seungcheol looked like they wanted to piss themselves. He looked absolutely terrifying.
Not answering to his accusations, you just looked away, crossing your arms even tighter around yourself as if they could shield you from his anger.
Bristling, he moved even closer when you didn't answer -and you took another step back- only to be stopped by the soft leather of your couch.
You were cornered by Seungcheol like a predator cornering it's prey, and you had no way of escaping.
He placed both hand on either side of you, caging you in between himself and the couch. You sunk more into yourself, your cheeks warming up as you looked anywhere but his face a few inches away from your own.
But somehow Seungcheol managed to lock eyes with you, his intense stare making your heart beat so loudly, you were sure he could hear it.
He kept his stare, searching your eyes for something – for what exactly, you didn't know- before he looked away, sighing. You let out a breath you didn't know you were holding.
„At least tell me what I did to make you avoid me like I'm some disease.“
When he looked at you again, you could see the hurt in his eyes, making you feel even more guilty than before. You wracked your brain, trying to find some valid excuse for the way you acted, coming up with nothing.
You winced internally at how meek your voice sounded and at how lame your answer was.
Seungcheol scoffed, leaning back while shaking his head with a bitter smile.
„ Are you kidding me? Of course I must have done something if you're avoiding me like the plague because of it.“
He looked at you again.“ Did I say something? Or do? Just tell me, so that I can leave you alone again, like you wanted me to.“
He took a step back, carefully schooling his features into indifference, but you could see that he was dreading your answer.
You couldn't control yourself anymore; „ I don't want you to leave!“ Taking a step forward, you continued „ If anything, I want you to do the opposite.“
Seungcheol looked taken aback „Then why did you avoid me? Why did you avoid me if I didn't do anyth-“
„I avoided you, because you make my heart race!“ You cut him off, suddenly growing angry. „ I avoided you, because you had to go and be your perfect adorable self. I avoided you cause just looking at you makes me want to kiss you senseless.“ You looked into his shocked eyes „I avoided you because you made me fall in love with you.“ You paused, taking a deep breath.
„And I avoided you...because I don't want to see that repulsion in your eyes, and be rejected“ You said -turning away to face the tv- crossing your arms around yourself, as if to protect yourself from what you feared.
The stunned silence that followed made tears well up in your eyes. With a heavy heart and a shaky voice, you turned your head slightly without looking at him and spoke: ,,Now that you know, you're probably more than happy to leave“
Suddenly, his hand circled around your bicep, and you gasped when he abruptly pulled you close enough to him that you chests were pressed against each other.
,,Seungcheol, what are yo-“ but your words died on your lips when you finally met his gaze again; instead of the apologetic expression you were expecting you only saw one single thing in his eyes:adoration. He smiled and whispered more to himself than to you:,,You stupid, stupid girl:“
And then, he was kissing you.
You froze as his eyes slipped shut, and he moved closer to you to press his lips harder against yours, his arms wrapping around your waist. Slowly, you melted into his touch, your own eyes closing and your body pressing impossibly close to his, while your lips moved against each other with passion. As your arms looped around his neck he took a step forward, making you take one back and you were once again trapped between the couch and Seungcheol.
Slowly, the both of you ran out of breath and you were forced to pull away from him, not opening your eyes yet. You gasped when you felt him press his forehead against yours, the close proximity worsening your already hammering heart. You slowly peeled your eyes open to find Seungcheol already looking at you, his gaze taking in your flushed cheeks, slightly swollen lips and wide, surprised eyes. He grinned, surging forward to peck your lips again when a blinding smile took over your features.
,,You really are stupidly oblivious sometimes, you know that?“
lol, this sucks ass... i wrote this a while back and whenever I read it i cringe.
I still have a long way to go, man..but i hope you enjoy this to at least some extent
