Part of being anti-censorship and pro-criticism is being able to log on to Ao3, look at the tags of a fic, go "What the actual fuck is wrong with this author?" and then keep scrolling. That's called separating 'censorship' from 'criticism.'
Like, having grown up in the previous censorship era and this one, I feel like it has to be driven home that you're allowed to feel horrified at content and say "That's completely fucked up" while also simultaneously agreeing that it should be allowed to exist. This is especially true in fanfiction where people talk so big about being anti-censorship while conflating it with anti-criticism. I see people saying "Oh you're grossed out by this? You're mocking this writer for making XYZ content? You must be pro-censorship!"
You're allowed to criticize something. You're allowed to be disgusted by something. Because those two concepts are separate, and combining them is exactly how pro-censorship movements get their ammunition. They'll say "Well this is about XYZ and isn't that disgusting? Isn't that awful? If it's disgusting and awful it shouldn't exist!"
And the truth is that something can be disgusting and awful but it MUST be allowed to exist. Using the weapon of censorship against censorship doesn't strengthen you, it just reinforces the legitimacy of the weapon.
