SEVENTH VOID - Heaven Is Gone (Official)
Wednesday, May 20: Seventh Void, “Broken Sky”
Type O Negative was so fundamentally goth, and so Brooklyn, that it was a little strange that so many of their members went the Southern doom route on subsequent projects. Kenny Hickey’s Seventh Void wasn’t very different in approach from Sal Abruscato’s A Pale Horse Named Death- and indeed two of the former’s members migrated to the latter- so while “Broken Sky” was a highlight on Seventh Void’s Heaven is Gone, it would’ve fit just fine on any of Abruscato’s records. The track was traditionally doom in nature, but also had the Southern-inflected swing that had recently become favored by several American doom and stoner acts. Perhaps this was to be expected, as Seventh Void was one of the few acts signed to Vinnie Paul’s Big Vin Records. In any event, Hickey was a capable vocalist, though his upper register stood in stark contrast to Peter Steele’s legendary moaning. But the guitarist didn’t keep the band going past this one album, and ultimately fellow Type O member Johnny Kelly transitioned over to A Pale Horse Named Death along with guitarist Matt Brown.
Fundamental difference between Pete's songs and Kenny's songs: Pete's songs: I can't wait to die and maybe worship a woman's body Kenny's songs: I can't wait for the earth to open up under me and swallow up the entirety of humankind
I need help lmao
