I really wish more people listened to those who have experience being on the ace spectrum. I see tons of people illustrate and discuss and even sexualize ace characters in a way that really doesn't feel respectful or even considerate of what the ace experience is like.
The term spectrum does not mean someone is either fully sex-positive or sex-repulsed. Sometimes, it can depend on the situation, on the person, on the moment. Personally, I never felt sexual attraction for anyone until I realized I was bi, and even then, both times I felt even a modicum of sexual attraction, it was so incredibly complicated it never lead to anything for me. It even faded out, even as I still felt romantic love firecely those two times.
it's just upsetting the way people think "oh hes ace/aro" in a disappointed manner, and the second they figure out there's more to it than 0 or 100, they immediately think "SO THEY /CAN/ HAVE XYZ!!!" because its far more complicated than that. I know it takes a while to understand, but at least try? I'd rather people try their best to portray it than to not at all. I appreciate it so much when people try to understand how I function, for example.
I wish more people listened to and tried to understand what the spectrum can be? Of course, fiction is fiction, people can do as they wish! Hell, straight and gay characters get shipped and drawn in ways that would never align with them as characters. But it's really discouraging to only ever see Alastor get railed and never see Alastor try to make sense of whatever attraction he has for the character he's shipped with. Or lack thereof. Idk.
Just a thought I had. Again, I fw headcanons. I ship stuff as well and love content that delve into a character's romantic attraction and where it could lead. I just wish more people realized its not "no sex" or "YES sex" only. It' so much more than that </3
