Saw two movies last night via the SFIFF drive in at Fort Mason- both amazing and wonderful and very much what I’ve been missing over the last year. Live music! A crowd expressing enthusiasm and appreciation for an artist (via honking)! Weird new films on large screens not in my house!
Lost Landscapes of Oakland with a live score by Fantastic Negrito was one of the bet film/music showings the festival has had in years. I want that ‘Labor’ song and the ‘Industry’ one has stayed with me- everything paired so well with the footage and it was refreshing to see Oakland admired for once rather than just the spotlight hogging SF.
Censor was great and meta and creepy and what I want out of a film. A “tamer” sort of “horror” that I could stomach and enjoy, would definitely recommend but beware of spoilers- it’s very well constructed and the confusion is part of the ride. Will say though that I strongly vibed with the lead actress- the messy bun showing emotional state, the fidgeting with a hang nail, the... repression. Yes.
