HIRING! Seeking a senior tech PR pro to join our growing team
Small Girls PR is searching for a senior publicist to help lead our Technology PR practice. This position will be a mix of setting strategy, driving media results, managing the team, and client consulting. The Tech Team is a dynamic group that works on clients ranging from Google to a new age semiconductor to wearables and drones - clients under this domain have a strong emphasis on emerging technology, developer/hacker relations, and startups.
The ideal candidate is the prodigal “early adopter” - the first amongst friends to learn about, try out & evangelize the latest app/gadget - even outside of the workplace. This candidate should be sharp, attuned to the world around them, and highly attentive to detail. We are looking for a team player who is adept at prioritizing, obsessively organized, and a critical thinker.
Great writing and editing skills, a sound understanding of the social environment on the web, and a strong book of existing media relationships are also expected.
This is a great opportunity to take on a leadership role in a quickly growing company with a great reputation while working among the most creative publicists in the game.
Responsibilities:
Media Relations
○ Delivery of in-depth coverage in top tier business & technology outlets (ex. WSJ, WIRED, AP, CNN, Bloomberg, etc.) on a regular basis.
○ Build and maintain own relationships with reporters via regular coffee/soul-cycle/cocktail/LAN party dates. (Bonus if you have ever been to a LAN party or know what that is)
○ Set and lead media strategy with the counsel and direction of the Director
○ Demonstrate ability to think creatively, critically, and strategically about a client and routinely generate new and interesting story lines *proactively*
○ Fluency in both B2B and B2C press and strategies, working across the lines as necessary
○ Day-to-day lead for 3-4 clients at a time.
○ Expected to advise clients on short and long term strategy, managing expectations and appropriately setting goals, timelines and deliverables
○ Candidate must have excellent written and verbal communications skills
○ Holds his or herself accountable for overall quality and performance of accounts, ensuring client expectations are set and managed consistently
○ Able to set their own priorities and manage their own schedules without much direction.
○ Responsible for team’s performance and working with team Director to mentor, delegate to & set junior staff up for success
○ Contribute to company as a whole through participating in brainstorms and working across teams to lend a hand (or creative concept) as required
○ Set and meet deadlines on a regular basis while ensuring the larger team does so as well
○ Contribute to new business on an as needed basis
● Must have at least 5-7+ years experience in PR (agency experience preferred)
● Must have previously managed full-time team members as part of your job
● A large rolodex of trusted media relationships who have relied on you in the past to bring them great, thoughtful stories
● Proven ability to concept creative ideas and strategize how to best amplify said ideas through media (candidate should have no problem offering up examples of times they thought outside of the box to build measurable buzz for clients)
● Quick-witted when it comes to brainstorms and jokes in equal measure
● Experience thinking through how to include social news sites like Reddit & Hacker News as part of PR campaigns a plus here
● Self-motivated but also welcomes direction happily when it is given.
Small Girls isn’t typical. We’re exactly 20 people (all in that coveted ~*millennial demographic*~), yet we’re an agency of record for brands as large as GE, Cartoon Network & Panasonic and we’ve put emerging startups like Hinge & Lumoid on the map. We think outside of the box, are known for our influencer campaigns, and routinely trendjack newscycles to tell our clients stories. We keep a close-knit family mentality when it comes to each other, clients, reporters, and bloggers so everything we do focuses on personal experience. We take our clients seriously but rarely ourselves. It also doesn’t hurt that we have Friday dance breaks, take “workations” together in sunny places like Mexico, and work in Williamsburg just two blocks from the Bedford L stop and dozens of premium coffee joints.
