oh oh oh, do the canon and headcanon ones for marco and luke
oh man OH MAN these two are gonna be related because i COMPLETELY forgot about all this in the aftermath of The Great DL Stint Of 2017 until now, but:
canon: i actually think right now it’s the rangers game at toronto from last may? marco went 6 innings, 1 ER on 4 hits (leadoff HR from shin soo choo on the very first pitch of the game lmao). as the story goes (paywalled, sorry), luke signalled for a changeup, marco was like ??? and he shook him off.
“We were just kinda laughing about it, honestly,” Maile said. “It just happened to be the first one that he’s shaken off this whole year. I’m sure I caught him a little off-guard. “
It will likely be the last time Estrada shakes Maile off, too.

headcanon: building off of the above - i’ve had this image in my head for almost a year now of them like, post-game? and everyone’s a little giddy because winning against texas in toronto is always fun, and Marco’s got the W and luke was totally smug in the clubhouse after the game.
luke’s trying to go over some of the sequencing from earlier with marco and he’s sitting just on the wrong side of “far apart enough for plausible deniability”. his thigh’s bumping against marco’s, practically on top of his actually, and he keeps trying to tell marco to focus but the mood in the clubhouse is contagious and he’s too busy grinning to focus himself. at some point marco’s probably like “honestly, why are we even doing this, we both know i’m never gonna shake you off again” and. luke just grins, and shifts in a little closer.
