What's really terrible is that this is exactly my flavor of angst, and I would read 1000000 fanfics with this kind of plot, but I don't trust the show to handle it well if they actually do go down the malec-breakup route.

i kind of disagree about the sebastian and alec thing - i think sebastian would be glad that alec killed jocelyn, because he /hates/ her. in the books, he tortures jocelyn, and the only person he considers is worth saving (when he basically takes over the world) is clary. he honestly doesnt care about jocelyn's well-being

hmm. okay, that definitely makes sense too. but difference is in this universe she’s dead. right? so let’s follow that from a sociopath’s perspective: she’s dead without him ever getting to confront her on what a shitty mother she was. someone stole that moment from him. he never got the vindication of hurting her himself

..like, i’m totally pulling this out of my ass okay, i don’t know the first thing about sebastian. i just think basically any spec is plausible at this point tbh, and rei’s theory (or whoever originally posted it) seems pretty compelling to me as a writer even purely from from a narrative standpoint bc it creates a relationship between this newly introduced character and one of the existing mains who he might not otherwise be tied to. if that makes sense?

Shadowhunters 2x20 is called “Beside Still Water” and this reinforces my theory that the s2 finale will essentially be the ending of City of Glass, with Valentine killing Jace, Clary killing Valentine, and then Clary using the Mortal Instruments to raise Raziel and ask him to bring Jace back to life. 

This is also when Sebastian is revealed and the arc of the final three books is set up.

I really hope this is what happens because it’s definitely finale material and it’d be a pretty damn good one too if they did it this way.

Another theory is that it could also be referencing when Clary Portals to Idris without permission and ends up swallowing half of Lake Lyn, and we leave season 2 with Luke desperately trying to pull Clary out of the water because it’s poisonous to Shadowhunters and the journey to find Amatis to cure her before she goes mad begins.

Okay, so Alec told his mother and Jace that he was going to propose, right? But he obviously didn’t. So what if the next day, Jace asks Magnus if he was surprised or to see the ring or something, and Magnus just goes blank and that’s how he finds out that Alec wants to marry him.

Okay so like either the malec proposal happens while they’re eating waffles/while they’re on the way to get waffles (I’m thinking there could be a heat-of-the-moment, post-fight proposal, but I lean toward the fluffy homemade breakfast and planned proposal option) or they have a waffle bar at their wedding

I just need a plot twist or Magnus to see what is going on right in front of him. He knows alec can't live without him he has heard those words for 2 seasons now it shouldn't be this easy for him to just accept. I need izzy to fix this now. Tell Magnus someone about anything asmo the proposal anything to get him on the right track.

Alternatively, one of the memories Magnus relives could be that line from s2 where he talks about how Alec would “blow up the very ground he stands on” to make something right. I think once Magnus had a moment and actually thinks about it, he’ll realize how completely out of character this was for Alec. 

And I really do think that someone will slip up and mention the proposal, though. I mean, the writer in me is all about Chekhov’s gun. (If you introduce a gun in the first act, it better be fired in the next one.) The failed proposal kind of screams set-up to me.

Okay so I’m calling it now before we get into things. Magnus is going to go to Jem/Brother Zachariah, but it’s actually Asmodeus in disguise who will fuck with Magnus’s memories so he’ll want to come home to Edom.
