Faith, Radicalism & Saying What We Mean - Lauren Gazzola (SHAC 7 Co-Defendent)

From March 2006 until just a few weeks ago, the FBI prohibited my dear friend Lauren & I from talking.  Lauren & I were sentenced to 4.5 years and 3 years in federal prison, respectively ...and the terms of our post-imprionment probation forbid us from talking to each other or being at the same place at the same time. I cannot underscore how excited I am to be able to speak to Lauren again, and even moreso to be able to hear her speak.  Lauren has always had her shit together, she has always been an inspiration to myself and others, and I am excited to see what she will do with her activism next. Tonight at 6pm she will be giving a lecture at The Center for Constitutional Rights on repression of activism movements, specifically FBI repression of animal and environmental advocates.  Please come down to the CCR, eat some free vegan food, and help support this newfound NLG collective for Animal Rights Advocacy. Green is the New Red

Yesterday, I finished reading Green is the New Red by Will Potter.This may be one of my favorite reads this year. Though at points it seems more of a Bio of the Shac7,the ALF and Will Potter himself. I was very impressed with finally finding a good book on "eco-terrorism".

Most the things written about in the book I already knew but still it was nice to be reminded of what has been going on in the United States over the past 20 years. The United States Government has put the label terrorist on these guys but not the Prolifer's killing Doctors and even the KKK. You have to really wonder where their priorities are. When you see the US Government defending property so hard over people.This is just one aspect of the war on Eco-Terrorism. It is to bad the United States has no interest in treating businesses responsible as for polluting the waters, land and people the same way they have the ALF/ ELF and Shac7.

At any rate I would recommend this to anyone who has been reading the Earth First!Journal, as well as anyone with no knowledge of these groups. Also, check out Will Potter's site www.greenisthenewred.com

Josh Harper (SHAC 7) will be speaking at New Direction Fest

*Standing Up for Your Beliefs in the Face of Government Repression* – presented by Josh Harper

Josh Harper is a former political prisoner who was charged with, and convicted of, violations of the Animal Enterprise Protection Act and interstate telecommunications conspiracies for two speeches he gave about the use of electronic civil disobedience. Him and his co-defendants were known as the SHAC 7, after the group they were accused of being a part of- Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty. Josh was sentenced to 3 years in Federal Prison, where the Bureau of Prisons labeled me a “domestic terrorist.” Josh will be giving a workshop that he says is “less of a ‘know your rights’, and more of an event about ripping down the layers of empty cheerleading, martyr complex bullshit, and glorification…a tale about how beliefs are worth fighting for, but you have to first know in your heart what you are facing and where you set your limits.”
