In the fall of 2015, Wildlife Defence League assisted the Madii’Lii Camp in monitoring the gate and preparing for winter. We chopped and stored firewood, helped build a smokehouse and assisted with general clean up. The Madii’Lii Camp is on the Unceded Territory of the Luutkudziiwus People of the Gitxsan Nation.
On Aug. 26, 2014, chiefs from the Madii’Lii territory closed the area to all pipeline development and to non-house member hunting as the area has been exploited by resident and non-resident hunters for years.
A gate was erected at the entrance to the territory at the 15 km bridge on the Suskwa FSR and a cabin was built to control access to the territory. This choke point effectively cuts off access for industrial contractors into the territory, including to 32 km of TransCanada's proposed Prince Rupert Gas Transmission fracked gas pipeline route.
We stand in solidarity with the Madii’Lii Camp and the Luutkudziiwus People - the rightful and territorial owners of their Unceded lands. You can support their work by visiting their website, donating and lending your time at the camp.

No New Animal Lab #MarchonUW on Friday, 10/2. Hundreds of activists flooded UW campus and the streets of Seattle in an effort to bring attention to the campaign to stop the Animal Research & Care Facility, a large underground lab proposed for the purpose of housing and experimenting on thousands of animals--dogs, cats, mice, rats, monkeys, Guinea pigs, rabbits, pigs, and more. No New Animal Lab is a pressure campaign designed to stop it. The #marchonuw is one aspect. #WeWillStopThisLab

I was humbled to be able to work along side of burningheartsmedia and with the team at fitzgibbon-media to direct this short film about Jenny Brown and Woodstock Farm Sanctuary. It would be wonderful if you could give this a reblog or share!
Nearly thirty years ago, Jenny Brown, had her leg amputated after cancer rapidly consumed her ankle. Homebound as an adolescent, Brown’s relationship with her feline companion and steadfast friend, Boogie, enabled her recovery from the amputation and years of chemotherapy. Boogie helped inspire Brown’s affinity for animals and her creation of Woodstock Farm Sanctuary (WFS), a haven for farm animals who are victims of cruelty and neglect —including animals who, like Jenny, are also amputees.
Ok, get your tissues ready. The story of how Woodstock Farm Sanctuary gives neglected animals a second chance will make you cry: https://vimeo.com/137158633

I was humbled to have been able to help with this investigation and short film. What Chris Christie did to the Duka family to advance his political aspirations is monstrous and supporting them is something deeply personal to me. Many thanks to burningheartsmedia for helping with some of the initial interviews that laid the groundwork for Murtaza’s investigative report.
In 2007, five men were arrested and accused of plotting to attack the Fort Dix military base near Trenton, New Jersey. Among them were the brothers Dritan, Shain and Eljvir Duka. Their case involved highly paid government informants with criminal histories, one of whom worked over the course of roughly 18 months to attempt to implicate them in a plot. Though none of the Duka brothers would ever plan any putative plot, they were ultimately all sentenced to life in prison. They remain incarcerated today.
This film by Razan Ghalayini, which includes raw surveillance footage and other video documentation that was used against the Duka brothers in court, shows the impact of the case on the Duka family.
The Intercept’s investigation into the case of the Fort Dix Five can be found here.
Myself and Andy Stepanian were lucky enough to be able to do a lot of the initial interviews that essentially laid the framework for this investigation and video. Please check it out.

As law enforcement officials and national media gear up for a St Louis County Grand Jury’s announcement as to whether it will levy charges against Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson for the August 9th shooting of Michael Brown Jr., activists have issued a 9 minute video communiqué providing an intimate look at the climate on the ground.
The video communiqué displays a cross section of the myriad groups activated in the region and includes exclusive footage of Vonderrit Meyers Sr., Ferguson Mayor James Knowles III, celebrated artist and HandsUpUnited.org cofounder Tef Poe, Taurean Russell, Lost Voices organizer Low Key, Millennial Activists United co-creator Ashley Yates, activist and Grey’s Anatomy star Jesse Williams, Damon Davis — a volunteer with The Don’t Shoot Coalition, Canfield Watchmen founder David Whitt, as well as local Ferguson business managers.
Viewers are encouraged to tweet, share, and embed the video using the accompanying hashtag #FergusonSpeaks —extended raw clips of each of the video’s subjects are available upon request.
