incidentally i think one of the interesting things about the a-plot of DSoD, tho, is how it suggests that the real reason atem had to go to the afterlife is essentially to satisfy the arbitrary requirements of shadi's baby-cult plan (collect babies, teach them they're more special than normal humans, train them how to escape to another dimension, ??? profit?)
and shadi's baby-cult plan is proven essentially misguided and invalid by the end of the movie. doesn't work, creates a monster with cube-shaped eyes and cocknballs, essentially based on unrealistic expectations, the chosen few ascending and abandoning everyone else, etc. it's a bullshit plan
...which personally i'd take to mean that, in fact, atem was rushed off to the afterlife for essentially bad reasons
combined with the fact kaiba goes to see him at the end, i think atem getting revived postmovie follows reasonably well from the plot
