And here’s our last storyline. It was rather obvious that by this point Sega had completely given up on its Sonic Storybook series which was a bit of a shame, really, as it was definitely quirky and less reliant on all the bad mechanics that had crept into the franchise at that point. Fun little time wasters. So, really, given the all-the-ships-all-the-time focus of our comic, we just had to add one more title to the series. No, this was never intended to actually be playable. (I didn’t even know Ren’Py existed back then.) We don’t need that kind of hassle.
Additional commentary for Animals That Smirk follows:
Having reread the article that the quotes in the comic came from, Sega’s position back then pisses me off even more. Especially if that’s the position they’ve held all along. Sonic is only for 12 year olds? I wasn’t even that young when I played my first Sonic game, and that was StH2! Are they seriously saying they expected 12 year olds to beat Sonic ‘06?? What’s even better is that they knew, all the way back in 2009, that it was impossible to cater to every Sonic fan, but it would still take them another 8 years before they finally had the idea to release at least 2 games close together. Seriously, how is Sega still in business?
Additional commentary for Bad End follows:
Not the planned ending, but considering it was more than a month between this and the previous comic, we felt it was best that it get cut short. A small shame. There would have also been an Amy path, a Blaze path, a Bunnie path, a Sally path, and of course the harem ending. Because Sonic would have wanted it that way.
And I spent quite a while on the logo, too.
