A hypothetical take on a future story arc wrapping up the story of the Shadowed One had G1 Bionicle had run a bit longer...
The divisions and utter chaos wrought by the Great Being Civil War would have left whatever groups had been left standing incredibly vulnerable. Whatever Toa and Glatorian forces had survived would probably be ragged and exhausted, and poorly supplied seeing as there wasn’t much infrastructure (or many remaining Toa) after the whole GSR debacle wrapped up.
Despite having nearly unlimited resources thanks to the repair of the planet it still takes time to process and utilize what was available. The Great Beings would have trashed New Atero and burned any crops being sewn to weaken any organized resistance by their potential subjects.
So even if the war wraps up, and the Toa and Glatorian triumph, they’re pretty much the victors of a pile of smoking ruins and starving civilians. The chaos would have left a lot of survivors who were ready to become free agent mercenaries to whoever was offering steady meals and a roof over their heads.
Enter the Shadowed One, who has carefully stepped back during all the fighting, gathering up the surviving Dark Hunters and whatever Bone Hunters, Skrall, Skakdi, and assorted miscreants he could find into his own private army. Striking when everyone else is at their weakest and grabbing up power would certainly make up for his crippling losses during the war with Teridax and the humiliation of being bullied around by The Order of Mata Nui. And the handy supply of Makuta-killing viruses he has on hand would make quick work of Miserix and the goody-goody Teridax should they try to interfere.
Driving out and killing the defenders would be child’s play, and in no time the Shadowed One finds himself the Shadowed King over a new civilization. He makes short work of cowing the populace and setting them to work building armaments for the eventual takeover of the Skakdi fortress and a new League of Six Kingdoms. No hero can stop him, or even get close.
Fortunately, Lariska is no hero.
Motivated by revenge for the loss of her arm and sick of being ruled by sadistic god-kings Lariska has joined back up with her former employer with the singular goal of killing him. Quickly regaining her status as second in command she works to undermine the organization and the Shadowed One from within. She is by no means “good” but provides aid and intelligence to rebel groups willing to chip away at his power base and distract him.
By keeping the pressure on his agents and drawing away their attention she strips away the protective barriers he’s placed around himself. He might suspect her, but with the help of the Order of Mata Nui and some planted evidence she can point the finger at whatever trusted lieutenants still guarding his back.
As the Shadowed One reaches endgame with the resistance, Lariska reaches the endgame of her revenge. She snatches her victory and ensures his defeat when she puts one of her protosteel blades into him. Probably right in his smug face so he can really see it coming, as promised.
The death of the Shadowed One fragments his forces, allowing the rebels to drive them from the city. Lariska with the bulk of the Dark Hunters retreats to rebuild, restructuring her organization to do what it has always done best, steal and kill for the highest bidder.
Artakha created me for the sole purpose of being a member of the Hand. My Destiny was that of helping others and defending those who needed it. Then, they created the Toa.
Can you imagine what it is like, working for years on something you quite literally existed for, only to be rendered obsolete the next week?
I spent millennia after the Hand vanished doing what I believed was right. That despite the Toa having taken my place, I could still help the world.
…eventually, I just… broke. I lost my faith and the sight of the path I walked upon. I lost my energy to bother with what I was created to do. Without anyone to help or guide me, life became increasingly… difficult to bear, if you will.
Then he found me.
He promised me a home, purpose, and life. A reason to exist. At the time, the Dark Hunters were “publicly” a mercenary corporation, not a world-encompassing crime syndicate - and I was ready to cling onto anything that would bring me back to the old days.
Shadowed One is a silver-tongued manipulator, rotten to the core. As much as I loathe to admit it, it didn’t take him much to convince me.
I think you've messaged it before the things the Doctor carries in his pockets and I just love that little headcanon!! sooo sweet
!!!! anon yes! thank you ♥️
Things the Doctor carries in his pockets:
Rose's hair ties and bobby pins he finds lying around the TARDIS
Martha Jones' first hospital ID card as a qualified doctor (he nicked it so he could keep it and she had to get a copy — not one week in and she's already lost her ID card)
The earrings Donna wore when they met Agatha Christie
That stethoscope he uses? Another thing he nicked from Martha
A note from Donna she once stuck to the screen at the control panel that just says 'thanks spaceman x'
A picture of Rose, Jackie, Mickey and him at Christmas dinner
A sketch made by local villager of Martha that he gifted her because of her beauty and grace
A fridge magnet of Donna and Wilf when they took a day trip to Chessington World of Adventure (they made sure Sylvia was out of the way before they took the photo)
Rose's attempts at practising writing circular gallifreyan on a piece of paper she'd torn from a magazine
One of those pocket-sized copies of professional photos from Martha's graduation day
What if the reason Rose and Tentoo didn't have more kids was because, while Mia was growing up, he'd noticed her strong resemblance to Jenny, and some deep, all-consuming fear took over him? So far, he has failed to protect all his children… What if he fails Mia too? And he can’t even entertain a brief thought of losing his little girl, so he vows to himself he'll never let her out of his sight, ever — which would be unfeasible, with more children to track and care for.
oh my gosh?? so soon with the feelings??
Anon, listen. I'm fascinated by Jenny because why was she blonde? There was no reason for her to be blonde. If she were ginger, it could have been a nice bit of foreshadowing to have the Doctor's clone be ginger.
But she wasn't. She was blonde.
And so here comes out another headcanon of mine: it was foreshadowing the Doctor's future. Ten, never being able to have a life with Rose and especially not after he lost her, could only ever imagine having a life and a family with her. He could only imagine what their children might look like or how they would sound when they called her "mum". I think it makes sense, doesn't it, that Ten was so in love with Rose that even his DNA, the DNA we all know he inherited out of love for her, contained his love for her.
So when his DNA is extracted, of course part of Jenny is Rose.
Mia would only naturally then look like Jenny. So it's completely normal that he would panic when he looks at Mia and sees Jenny, and I love your take that he would be so fiercely protective over them because he's lost too many people already. Tentoo holds on to Rose and Mia with everything he has, every day, because he did lose them both and he won't lose them again.
Hi !! how are you? I hope you’re okay:) I miss your fics
Oh! ♥️ Thank you! I’m good 😊 just getting super busy at work but otherwise nothing new ‘cept a king now so
