How fucking baller would it be if this was a reference to the loom of the Moirai?

It wouldn't be Treyarch's first foray into peppering actual mythology into the narrative. That was a prominent theme in Chaos which they seem to be wanting to canonize again. "Loom" being capitalized feels like it points to that.

The Moirai were responsible for spinning the threads of mans destiny. Clotho spun the thread, Lachesis measure the lifespan, and Atropos cut the thread. Because of this, fate and destiny are inflexible. You cannot defy what has already been written for you.

Perhaps what Verytharion is trying to say is by defying the loom of the Moirai (sometimes called the Loom of Life or the Loom of Fate), their threads will be cut permanently. That by defying the fate that's been woven for everyone, they will die trying. Which would be a really interesting way to wrap up Requiem's story where we know they die by 1993 (I think).

I don't think Treyarch is actually smart enough to be playing this kind of 4D chess here. And I know by saying all this I'm going to be so mad when it doesn't come true. This line just likely refers to how Verytharion is the weaver.

Cloak of the Shadowsmiths Rare Hunter Cloak “It’s already being handled.” - Cayde-6, in an emergency session of the City Consensus

This is the one and only reference I can find to the Shadowsmiths. Given that Cayde offers this info in response to a City-wide scope emergency, I feel pretty reasonable in assuming the Shadowsmiths are an organization that falls under the jurisdiction of Hunter Vanguard (though not necessarily entirely consisting of Hunters.) The name and context suggest a group that take care of problems efficiently and quietly like ninjas or assassins. A bit like Ikora’s Hidden but with less snooping and more making things happen (smithing).

For some time I puzzled over why the Taniks strike was titled Shadowthief. Something to do with wanting to pilfer the powers of Darkness I supposed. Then I remembered the Shadowsmiths cloak.

If Cayde is the leader of the Shadowsmiths now, it reasons Andal headed the group during his Vanguard days.

Could Taniks be listed as ‘the Shadowthief’ in Vanguard hit lists not because he wants to steal the power of Darkness but because he ’stole’ a ‘shadow’ when he murdered Andal Brask, leader and member of the Shadowsmiths?
