For those who have been following...
I ran! The whole thing! My calf wasn’t 100% coming into race day and I was concerned. I am proud to say the intense rolling I did the two weeks leading up to the race made a world of difference! I was able to accomplish two of my goals for this race; 1) run, and 2) enjoy it (pain and all!). The photos are a glimpse into the day!
For anyone curious...
Pace:Junky” is my apparel brand! I put it on all race bibs when able. :)
The details of the race...
For #8, the race and day themselves were great. Flat, fast course. Good pockets of cheering spectators. Perfect weather. I really couldn’t ask for much more! I started out too fast due to my watch mileage being off compared to the course. Once I found my rhythm, I settled in and got to business. My first half was good. Once I hit 14 things started to fall apart. The 3:45 group passed me and I knew I was about to begin a battle with my C goal of 4:00:00. From 14 all the way to the end I was battling cramping and low energy. I had to walk a few small sections to release some semi-cramped muscles. Coming into the finishing stretch down the boardwalk it was coming down to literal seconds. I pushed the last 200m as hard as I could, but came up just short of my goal; 4:00:05! Gah! I am very pleased with my time, to be honest. 4:00 is no joke in the marathon! I’ll get back to form and shoot for Boston another day. :)
All in all, GREAT race and I would recommend it to anyone! It has definitely stirred my motivation to run again. Now the question is... what’s next?
