Hi! I just wanted to say that I had surgery recently & I’m having a crap time recovering and the Ahsoka novel & audiobook (I cant really look at a screen for too long without getting more nauseous) are helping me distract myself and make me feel better, so thank you for writing such a great piece of work that’s just as good the fifth time round as the first :) On the topic of Writing Things, do you have a particular process for making characters unique from each other? Thank you!
Thank you! (My post-surgery experience was, like, 100% Harry Potter fanfic and no sleep, so I understand the depth of this compliment, trust me.)
The best way to make characters unique is to make them want different things. Kaeden wants Miara to be safe. Miara wants a bit of adventure. Ahsoka wants to want something again. Pilar wants to be taken seriously. etc. etc. Once they have different motivations but have to coexist, they go off in all directions, and you’ve got something. :)

I have a Lot Of Thoughts RE: Sabine, Satine & Bo-Katan and the whitewashing of the Mandalorians and Satine's cultural genocide w/ the pressure of the Mandalorian Excision and such. Mainly that I get the feeling that Satine had about 3% of a clue what she was doing and the Jedi messed about in a 'neutral world' a ridiculous amount (& GL screwed around with the mandalorians a ton in CW & filoni is trying to fix that in rebels). I'm gonna write up a post w/ all this soonish
TCW majorly screwed up the Mandalorians in so many ways, and while there are definitely parts in Rebels I have not been entirely fond of (I‘ve got issues with the whole Bo-Katan thing but that’s a subject for another time) at least it’s got. actual non-white Mandalorians. (Though you know what would be cool, if they could bring in some alien Mandalorians in addition, and underline adoption as a major thing after the apparent hereditary pass from Satine to Bo-Katan.)
I mean, I do like Satine for a lot of what they were trying to do with her character, but completely oblivious writing combined with the homogeneous white Mandalorians (and the dismissal of the Fetts as fakes) in TCW did her no favors. So in the end Satine’s character is a mess of (probably) unintentional genocide and white supremacy and it’s not good. Honestly if they’d just...not called Mandalore Mandalore in TCW we wouldn’t have nearly so many problems. The Jedi going to random planets and messing with the local governments could be so much more interesting if they actually examined the morality of it, rather than framing the Jedi as always being in the right.
Anyway, I really hope they continue to do better with the Mandalorians in Rebels (even if they likely won’t address some of my specific gripes but oh well!) and let Sabine be Mand’alor one day
