Today is the #SharkDay! And presenting today the wonderful #hammerheadshark (𝘚𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘳𝘯𝘢 𝘭𝘦𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘪), the flag species of Malpelo island, Colombia 🇨🇴 in the 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼 𝗱𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗮 𝘆 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗽𝗲𝗹𝗼 #SFFMalpelo.

Hoy en el #DíaDelTiburón te presentamos al maravilloso #TiburónMartillo (𝘚𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘳𝘯𝘢 𝘭𝘦𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘪), la especie bandera del 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼 𝗱𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗮 𝘆 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗽𝗲𝗹𝗼 #SFFMalpelo.

Buzos de todo el mundo vienen a la isla a ver escuelas de cientos de individuos. Este tiburón puede alcanzar los 4 metros de longitud, un gran tamaño considerando que al nacer miden solamente 40 cm aproximadamente.

Sharks come in all sorts of glorious shapes, sizes, and colours! In fact that's one of the things we love most about them!!

Worldwide, there are over 500 sharks, 600 skates and rays, and 50 chimaera. All unique and amazing in their own ways, and perfectly adapted to the environment in which they live!

From tiny Pygmy Lanternsharks that glow in the dark. To impressive filter-feeding Whale Sharks that can grow up to 17m long. Epaulette Sharks that use their fins to walk over coral reefs. And bizarre deep-sea Goblins with transparent skin. We could go on and on...

After finding an usual behaved tiger on the flats the other day I did the same thing anyone would and jumped in to have a look, a punter gave me his camera to get some photos although I didn't really know how to use it, luckily I had my trusty #gopro on me head so I jumped in to find this juvenile tiger was hunting a turtle and started getting some snaps, I was aware of the situation I had put myself in and knew I had to keep my distance to avoid interfering with nature, what happened next I defiantly did not expect and will never forget!!! I came away from this experience with a lot of thoughts but have not grown any fear, if anything a ton more respect for these amazing animals. Tiger sharks are not hunters they are scavengers, basically the garbage truck of the ocean, they only target sick or wounded prey and as you can see here do not attack with much aggression. They are not the shark the media makes them out to be, they are very placid and generally avoid any contact with us. This was not an attack it was simply a warning to get away from his food, you can see how slowly the shark swims up and doesn't even attempt to bite me, if he wanted me he would've had me plain and simple. Please respect not hate sharks they cop way to much bad publicity but it's all from people who don't understand and probably have never even been snorkelling let alone swam with a one!!! With this post I want to share one of the MOST AMAZING diving field trips I’ve ever had. And also an easy-to-use guide to identify hammerhead sharks 🦈🔨

This #tbt (2018-2019) was at Malpelo Island, an oceanic island 500km far away from the Colombian Tropical Eastern Pacific (TEP) coast. It’s know as one of the most incredible dive Island due to its huge diversity of benthonic and pelagic marine species. And also is a very important migratory point between Pacific Islands as Cocos, Costa Rica and Galápagos, Ecuador. That’s why we found a variety of marine creatures at different periods of time during the year. At this location I could meet the schools of hammerhead sharks, whale sharks and even the ‘monster’ shark from Malpelo. Can you imagine diving in a sea with very low visibility but with 200-300 hammerhead sharks swimming around you!?

That was crazy! But one of the best diving trips you can do. They aren’t aggressive animals with humans, besides, they are very curious about what your doing during your dive. 🥽 Same with the whale shark, the largest fish of the oceans. You can see some males and females during your dives. They’re HUGE! We saw some that measure more than 12m! But totally inoffensive, remember they’re herbivorous.

Here sharing very interesting information about sharks 🦈 (and rays) reproduction. Do you know that different species of sharks have VERY different types of reproduction? As you can see in the picture, this gorgeous animals have viviparous, oviparous, ovoviviparous, and even ASEXUAL reproduction!

Aquí les quiero compartir información súper interesante sobre la reproducción de tiburones 🦈 (y rayas). ¿Sabían que diferentes especies de tiburones tienen diferentes tipos de reproducción? Como vieron en la primera imagen, estos hermosos animales tienen reproducción vivípara, ovípara, ovovivípara, e incluso ASEXUAL!
