The Feast (2021), La Llorona (2019), and The Medium (2021) were each gorgeous foreign folk horrors/possession horrors (set in Wales, Guatemala, and Thailand, respectively). None is much like the others so I don’t know why I’m lumping them together other than that they’re spooky and not from the US or Canada.
Slumber Party Massacre (2021) was a perfect update to the franchise & super fun, Spontaneous (2020) stressed me the heck out, and The Matrix: Resurrections (2021) was one of my only in-theatre experiences this pandemic …and it was so consistent with the original trilogy that it brought me real joy.
Mostly I loved Tampopo (1985) because I love stories about food, Kajillionaire (2020) broke my heart, and I’m obsessed with Ada in Lamb (2021).
