Letter #170 Today’s letter went to my favorite food truck.

Lebanon Shawarma, 303 1/2 N Brand Blvd., Glendale, CA 91203

I was definitely excited when I saw the Lebanon Shawarma sign go up. I love sharwarma. When I walked in, the first thing I saw was a sign that said Mexican Sharwarma. Hmm. So, this is a fusion kind of eatery and it doesn’t seem to be halal. Order at the counter.

The menu includes shawarma (beef, pork, soujouk, Mexican, chicken), kebabs, burgers, sandwiches, soups, salads, mantee/manti (beef dumplings), lahmajun, and sides. They have a case with salads (hummus, sarma, mutabal, tabbouleh, jajekh, cabbage) and bottled drinks like yogurt drinks, sodas, water, etc.

I wanted to try the shawarma but the person who took my order recommended the Maria sandwich. The reviews of the Maria sandwich were very positive, so I decided to try it.

* Maria sandwich ($9.50): It’s not like a sandwich with two pieces of bread. Instead, it looks like a quesadilla only made with flatbread rather than a tortilla. The flatbread was thin and a bit crispy. It was stuffed with ground beef (not loose but more like gyros style), mozzarella cheese, garlic sauce, cumin and pepper paste. It was greasy and very bland. Plus, it seems expensive for what it was. I can get a much better Armenian flatbread sandwich at Old Sasson Bakery in Pasadena for under $5.

* Sarma (aka dolmas, $5.50): tomato, rice, onions wrapped in grape leaves. Mr. Froyo said that they were soggy.

The décor is simple but nice. I doubt that I would return.
