People will not gaslight me into thinking that Shawn Levy is some sort of talentless hack. I saw someone on Tik Tok made that assertion and I will allow that narrative.
Do these people realize that some of the most emotionally beautiful and visually stunning episodes of Stranger Things was directed by Shawn? "Dear Billy".... The episode with the Running Up That Hill. And then that final shot where Shawn waited until sunset in order to get the sun naturally setting the background with it's varied hues of purple and gold. "The Body" from season 1 which is just a thrill ride from start to finish. "Holly Jolly" from season 1 with that scene at the end where they find "Will's body". "The Sauna Test" from season 3 which is so fan beloved.
Shawn Levy is an incredible producer. In the season 2 trailer they had the song "Thriller" by Michael Jackson playing in that trailer and they almost didn't get the rights but Shawn fought tooth and nail and it's because of Shawn that they got the rights to "Thriller". Thanks to Shawn we have one of the most epic and fun trailers i've ever had the pleasure of seeing. And it made me fall in love with that song. I had heard that song before but I hadn't truly HEARD it and because of that trailer it became my favorite Michael Jackson song for a long time. He brings out the best in everyone and all the actors loved him. He really cultivated Finn's interest in directing and taught him a lot and allowed him to see how it worked behind the camera. Shawn Levy is so talented and ya'll can't trick me into thinking otherwise.
Also BTW he directed the Night At The Museum movies. I can't remember all the films but that first film is seared in my mind. It's a work of art truly!
I loved Deadpool and Wolverine, still do, but I don't know how I feel about the director of that movie doing Ghost Rider.
Sorry if you asked this a while ago, I didn’t get notified for whatever reason. I personally think Deadpool and Wolverine is a largely OK movie, anchored mostly by one truly brilliant scene right in the middle of it, but I’m honestly kinda apathetic toward Levy as a choice for Ghost Rider.
The movie was apparently something Gosling pitched to Levy before they both pitched it to Fiege, so clearly he’s the guy Gosling envisioned for whatever this ends up being, and I’ll be shocked if it’s not leagues better than the Cage duology as a matter of course, but as someone who’s never read GR in the comics, it kinda seems to me like the main appeal is just the badass visuals. I don’t know if there’s any core to Ghost Rider as a character beyond that surface level cool factor, and I think any serviceable director can capture that in theory.
found myself free of my months long stranger things hypfx by falling in love with project hail mary + getting into ryan gosling's filmography only to be forced to meet the enemy Again by being into ryan gosling's movies (he's making not one but Two movies with shawn levy)
