ok but hear me out....

alex and james blake are both queer. remember that one ep where alex tells james she loves him bc of how devoted he is to his work? i truly believe she does love him, and vice versa, but i also think they got married because they’re safe with each other. like tbh i can imagine alex being like “hey hubby ily but there’s this hot chick and im gonna bang her tn if thats okay with you” and james being like “okay babe have a good time use protection”

meanwhile james is seeing the resident gay teacher in his department and gushes to alex about him nonstop and alex is like “omg he sounds so amazing please have him over for dinner sometime!! i cant wait to meet him” and when alex teaches on weekends they all go on lunch break at the same time and chat!

but when they are home at the same time, although it’s rare, they don’t waste a minute together. they’re attatched at the hip. they cuddle nonstop, make love every 10 minutes, watch tv together and discuss the events of her latest case or his favorite doctors w/o borders memories. they’re one of the healthiest couples in the show and they’re completely open with each other. and despite alex’s love of words, she has never once put a label on how she feels about other human beings. she doesn’t label her husband, she doesn’t label their relationship past saying they’re deeply in love and they feel safe with each other.

“True love’s kiss... works every time.” But what about when you are unsure of your relationship because neither of you has said the word “love” yet? ((my take on what happens after Evie’s One Kiss number so we get some #closure))

“Here I go,” Evie whispered to herself as she leaned closer to Doug’s sleeping face.

It was weird, she thought, to be this nervous about kissing her boyfriend, something she regularly did without hesitation. But true love? That was a lot of pressure, considering neither of them had even used the “L-word.”

Evie’s past relationships had been nothing like her relationship with Doug. She was used to flaunting her looks to get what she wanted, a trick she learned from her mother. It worked too: Evie always got what she wanted, whether it be free food for the times her and Mal would spend weeks at their hideout instead of going home or a barely-passing grade in her science class after not paying attention all year.

With Doug, in Auradon, it was different; he saw her talent, her potential, her worth.... so much so that she was able to see it too.

She was smarter than she ever imagined, acing just about anything she put her mind to, from chemistry tests to running her own fashion business. It felt good, not having to rely on anyone else, but through it all, Doug had always been by her side, supporting her every move. 

She loved that about their relationship, getting to be her own person. She was also starting to realize that she might love him too. Ben and Mal’s proposal sparked a small amount of courage to try and tell him how she feels, but she stopped herself, unsure of what to call it.

The way she felt with Doug was new, contrary to the emptiness present in her other relationships ((if she could even call them that)). She thought it was love, but then again, she wasn’t sure. How was she to know how true love was supposed to feel?

((oh how it would be easier if Doug would just say it first))

Time was up, though. Evie had to know. She softly pressed her lips to his, waiting for his body to move, but he stayed motionless.

Evie stood up quick, feeling embarrassed as her cheeks turned red and Doug continued to snore. She turned towards Mal and Uma, who were just as shocked until they saw a slight movement beside her.

It was him; he was awake. Evie smiled slightly before remembering he tricked her. She sat up next to him with her arms crossed, refusing to face him. 

Doug smirked at Evie, until realizing she might not have thought his joke was that funny. He moved closer to her, nudging her shoulder slightly, watching the corners of her lips turn upward. He breathed a sigh of relief and smiled back at her, both of them realizing the events that just unfolded.

“I think this calls for some cake!” Mal cheered, to which Uma agreed and followed her into the kitchen.

“So...” Doug started, “True Love’s Kiss, huh?”

Evie snickered, her arms uncrossing and falling to her sides as her grin beamed upon her cheeks. “Who would have thought?”

Doug’s smile widened, and as put her hand in his, the concerns of his recent sleeping spell slipped away. The fate of Auradon was unknown, but he and Evie were going to be just fine.

“I love you, Evie.”

Evie put her other hand on top of his and leaned her head on his shoulder. “I love you too.”
