Women of the American Revolution, represent! The original persisters. 

They are: Deborah Sampson, who disguised herself as a man to fight for nearly two years in the Revolutionary War, Elizabeth Freeman (Mum Bett), who was the first slave to file for and win her freedom in Massachusetts, and Sybil Ludington, who rode through the night to rally her father’s militiamen, ultimately riding farther than Paul Revere without getting caught. 

She persisted, she has always persisted, and she will continue to persist.
