Completed sheep cowl.

Pattern is the standard adult medium cowl from The Doodle Knit Directory & the Flock 2024 limited doodle card by Pacific Knit Co. Yarn is the limited edition Flock 2024 doodle kit in Bronto DK by Yarnaceous Fibers.

Here’s a dumb blocking solution for when your floats crinkle the work because your tension was stuffed up by not managing to find a comfortable tip/cable length combo for the garment size.

Step 1: pin down flat to stretch floats as much as feasible whilst wet overnight

Step 2: do whatever this is the next morning when damp to even everything out

The problem with the size cowl I’m doing is that I just couldn’t find a good combination between my needle tips & the commercially available cable lengths which didn’t stretch or compress the work too much. After struggling considerably with my 13mm length needle tips combo’ed with a 50cm cable, I finally caved & bought shorties to switch out to & golly they made the difference! Just a few more rows of ribbing before I’m able to cast off.

What started out as an aesthetic decision to frog back the salmon sheep to eliminate the extra white row when the chart repeated, turned into a frustratingly epic foray into repairing multiple issues.

I had to learn how to thread in an afterthought lifeline to safely frog back about 8 hours of work to reknit the grey sheeps where a surprise dropped stitch was discovered. Then I needed another lifeline to frog back half those sheeps again when I discovered a surprise extra stitches around had appeared. Also ended up downsizing the cable as the colourwork was being stretched too much whilst knitting.

In total, all of that, plus an extra row of sheep equated to about 14 hours of work.

Doing some stranded colourwork. Basic cowl pattern is from Pacific Knit Co’s Doodle Directory book, pattern is the 2024 Flock Festival Doodle. I’m using yarns from Yarnaceous Fibers that were park of the special Flock Festival Doodle dye pack. I ended up sizing down the needles by a 1/4 of the recommend size as my naturally tight tension tends to loosen with stranded colourwork, plus the yarn is springy.
