She’s an alpha female, a darker violet color. Looks a lot like Grandma Krolia in the face and ears. She has curly hair and a tail.

Her favorite toys are her Bibobi doll and her blanket.

She’s the most perceptive of the cubs, noticing everything but not always saying anything about it. Her still waters run deep.

She’s got the loudest and strongest meow. All of her brothers shut up when she’s speaking. She’s fast and smart, and fiercely protective of her brothers, especially Haru. 

The Red Lion loves her. When Mitsuko roars at Red, sometimes Red roars back. Coran made Mitsuko a tiny flight suit and installed a baby seat next to the pilot seat in the Lion. It has tiny controls so that the cub can pretend she’s flying too. Red lets Keith fly her when Mitsuko wants a turn. Mitsu learns to fly Red at 5.

They all blerp and make cute chirp noises. Their whole bodies rumble when they purr. They have specific calls for each parent: a high chirp for Keith and a fast chirpchirp for Shiro.

The babies never understand why their parents aren’t all furry.

So much grooming. Babies try to groom their parents’ hair. Parents have to deal with cleaning all that fur. (Once baby Haru got something stuck in his fur and had to be shaved.) When washed, they’re tiny underneath the fur, but wow, are they huge when blow-dried.

The babies start with a tiny nub tail that may eventually grow into something long and glorious but starts as just a poof, constantly wiggling but when excited it goes crazy.

Something catches their attention and their eyes go all wiiide and they goes still.

If a thunderstorm is happening you can find them cuddling in the closest box available, all warm and safe and snuggled together as tight as possible. “If I fits, I sits!” (this applies to Keith, too.) Shiro’s lap is prime real estate during thunderstorms.

Keith buys a really really big hoodie that has a big pocket, like one of those hoodies with a pouch to hold your cat. The smallest poof finds their way into it.

Shiro stares, poleaxed, as though Keith were speaking Galran. When it sinks in, it’s like the sun rising. Keith has never seen Shiro’s eyes so bright.

The entire castle knows in minutes, because Shiro gets on the intercom: "We're having a baby!"

The Blade of Marmora knows by lunchtime. (”They have spies everywhere,” Lance mutters.) The Voltron Coalition finds out a few hours later.

It’s going to be one hell of a baby shower.

It’s a galaxy-wide party. There’s lots of political maneuvering -- people networking, snooping, making deals (and in one notable case, making out) -- but most Coalition representatives seem genuinely happy for Keith and Shiro.

Lotor's girl gang shows up to congratulate them, which is weird, but hey. It’s a celebration of new life. Everyone can make peace for a day.

The gifts are in huge piles. Lots of baby clothes, of course, though some aliens obviously don’t have a clear grasp of what’s appropriate for human babies. Some of the space diapers look like an improvement on the Earth ones, though.

There are so many baby blankets. So many. Many of them are handmade. (Matt steals the one that’s sewn together from alien animal hides. Shiro lets him. It smelled funny.)

Allura and Coran craft traditional Altean windchimes to hang over the baby’s bed. Lance finds some of those grooming gloves used to catch shedding pet hair. They all laugh, but in the end the gloves turn out to be quite useful.

The Blades of Marmora turn up with knives.

The Blades of Marmora are super protective of the cubs, especially if they haven’t seen them in a long time (a week or so).

Akira regularly toddles into training sessions and grabs Kolivan’s leg. He falls over multiple times until Kolivan reaches down with a big claw to help the baby up.

Akira grabs big fistfuls of Kolivan's fur and Kolivan just lets him. He’s been known to lead a meeting with a tiny poofball clinging to him. Akira in particular likes to bite into Kolivan’s braid with his tiny teeth and worry it like a dog toy. Kolivan continues his briefings with a completely straight face. Mitsuko loves to tug on his ears. Shiro once caught Kolivan doing his paperwork with Haru sleeping in the crook of his neck.

The Blades all have pet names for the babies. They give them all kinds of traditional Galra gifts.

None of the babies could pronounce “Kolivian” at first. Imagine, if you will, a tiny baby voice attempting his name:

Eventually they just use “Kool.”

"Cream puff, head fluff, soft scruff, and human stuff."

Shiro: "Is that one soft scruff or head fluff?"

"That's head fluff, Shiro, see his ears?"

Shiro, two months down the line very quietly asks Krolia, "What's head fluff's actual name?"

"I hope you're joking."

"Of course I am!"

Hikaru is a human, beta male.

The Black Lion likes him best.

Hikaru is the green thumb of the family, and has quite the exotic plant collection, even when young. The Blades especially like to bring him plants from their travels. By the time he’s an older kid, he has an “ailing plant” area in his room where he nurses sick plants to health. He and Shiro often garden together. 

Hikaru is soft spoken but he's not meek; he speaks with certainty and nobility.

He idolizes Kolivan and wants to be just like him when he grows up, right down to the long braid. "Granpa Kool is big and strong! An--and-- he has long hair! And daddy has long hair too! I'm gonna be strong like him and Daddy when I'm older!"

At least half of the pancake makes it into Akira’s mouth; the rest gets in his fur. Crumbs everywhere. And. Shiro gave Akira syrup before Keith could warn him against it. Shiro quickly learns: never do that again.

Akira does his best to bathe himself but he is small, his tongue is small and his arms are fat, everything is hard. He can get the fists fine, though, and the syrup really is delicious.

Space wolf comes over and licks the baby clean. Everyone wins.
