My Sheith-day Post
(Season 8 aside because, frankly, I've disinherited it and moved away to a reclusive, winter-bound, mountain cabin to forget it ever happened.)
Sheith is the most healthy, collaborative, loyal, mutually-trusting, inspiring, and loving relationship I've seen in Voltron: Legendary Defender.
From the moment they'd met they'd had each other's backs. Keith had no one; his mom had to pursue her mission's end and his father died in a fire. Whereas Shiro had everyone in his corner, yet no one at the same time; his illness forced a time limit on Shiro's life, and left everyone telling Shiro what to do instead of what he wanted to do.
Shiro was the only one to believe in Keith when no one else would; when even he had given up on himself. Keith was the only one to ask Shiro what he was going to do despite his illness; reminded him that he wasn't just his illness.
"Patience yields focus"; it's what Shiro taught Keith- to be patient even in times of chaos.
"As many times as it takes"; it's what Keith taught Shiro- that even when all seemed lost, there'd always be Keith who'd be there to guide him back.
Keith was never a lost-cause kid with discipline issues. He was a talented young man who, in time, grew up to be one of the most proficient pilots Shiro's ever seen- even surpassing Shiro himself. Yet, despite everyone's insistence that Keith was trouble and would never amount to anything good, Shiro stuck by Keith. Consistently, he'd take responsibility for Keith's shortcomings even when he didn't need to, and help Keith grow past them. He always promised.
Shiro was never a disease with limited time and unable to pursue his dreams. He was one of the most famous pilots in the Garrison from sheer skill. Even when everyone close to him told him to give up and be thankful for the time he had, Keith never chose to. He never gave his opinion and never tried to convince Shiro to take a certain path or decision.
During the Trials of Marmora, Keith only managed to unlock his blade's potential when he decided to throw it away to keep Shiro safe. Likewise, Shiro forgoes the prospect of an alliance with the Blades of Marmora in order to shield Keith from further pain. They're both willing to sacrifice majorly important things to keep the other safe.
Keith really meant it when he said "my life would have been a lot different if I hadn't met you." And Shiro acknowledges that as fact; that yes: he helped Keith grow into a great man. That together, they'd influenced each other's lives in such a way that without the other they'd be infinitely different and possibly worse off than they were then.
I respect it if you don't ship Sheith, this is just my expressing my love of it.
I'm sorry if you hate Sheith as a romantic ship or as platonic.
I love these two, great men - great characters - who love each other with all they have and will ever be.
This is so sappy and self-indulgent, happy Sheith Positivity Week y’all!
Sheith Positivity Day 4
Share your favorite AU work someone else has made.
(Yes, still playing catch-up.)
There’s just too many possibilities in the realm of Sheith fanfic. Soulmate AUs. Hogwarts AUs. Superhero AUs. Modern AUs. So many and so many good ones. Just take a look at my bookmarks on AO3 sometime for some of the stories I enjoy. (Check the rating/tags - I do not fear NSFW.)
First favorite is the story that brought me to forever-and-ever Sheithdom, Strengths and Weaknesses by @latart. This is a pre-Kerb AU that will forever be known as the story that guessed right about Keith and Shiro meeting because Keith stole his vehicle. But from there it goes into a terrific depiction of the two of them getting closer as friends and then dealing with rampant UST before they come together. The Garrison backdrop is beautifully done and Latart surrounds our boys with a group of OCs strong enough to carry one of the series installments on their own.
I’m including a couple of these because they’re the kind of story that I normally wouldn’t try, but for whatever reason I did and am eternally glad that I did so. The first is Married at First Sight by @flashedarrow - I remember seeing some buzz on my dashboard about this story but also seeing that it was based on a reality TV show. I detest reality TV and have always avoided it, so I didn’t look for ages. I honestly don’t remember what made me click a link - maybe it was because of who recommended it, maybe it was noticing an uptick in excited chatter. But I started reading when it had ten chapters and it was just the kind of fluff I needed at the time. And now it’s one of my top favorite fics ever, 62 chapters and counting of fluff and angst and cheer and drama and joy, all peppered with some very hot smut. It’s the kind of story, like Latart’s, that holds me because the characters are so well done. Give me vivid characters with fleshed-out personalities and I’m happy to read about them sitting in a coffeeshop all day just bouncing off one another. But with both of these stories, there’s also levels of plot that keep things moving and add to my involvement as I anticipate, worry, and celebrate along with the characters.
So, the notion of a “catboy” was something I didn’t learn about until the VLD fandom - I’m assuming this is something that came out of anime or Japanese fandom in general, neither of which I’m very familiar with. So for a while there I would see “catboy (character)” in tags and keep scrolling. Again, I think it was a recommendation from a trusted Tumblr that made me try Maybe We’ll Find a Brand New Ending by @carbonbop. And this was a story that caught and held my attention to the point that I was imagining possible scenarios and what-ifs for it for days at a time. Kind of like MAFS, it’s a focus on characters first as Shiro seeks to help Keith recover from a situation of horrific abuse and Keith realizes slowly that Shiro has been battling his own past and Keith can do something about that. Also like MAFS, the other VLD characters have great roles and interactions to enrich the story.
And finally, in no particular order, favorite stories for various AU tropes that I love and/or am currently enjoying:
Soulmate AU: Fragile, Handle with Care by @echoresonance
Superpower/Extra Ability AU: Context by @lycoria
Faerie AU: Something Wicked (This Way Comes) by @mllecomtessedelafere
SF/Firefly AU: Bombs and Bullets by @ashinan
everyone in the sheith fandom knows keith & shiro will save each other till the end of time and that’s fandom solidarity
Voice your opinion on the poll: What Month Should The Week Happen?
What Month Should The Week Happen?
Gonna go ahead and throw this up, to get started on voting for the month. This is to judge which month the community prefers time wise for posting all week.
I predict a lot of warm month votes lol.
The voting will take place from now until the end of February, at which point the month with the most votes will be chosen. And from there, I’ll pick out the best week and we can all get the party started.
Sheith Positivity Week 2019 !!!!!!!!
Guess what?!! It’s back on!! And I’m going to be giving it my all to make it great!!
I think, that due to my inexperience with running a major blog on my own- that to make this as easy as possible I’m going to make a set list of prompts and put it out for critic by the sheith community. Simply because I know a lot of people take part and so far, I’m the only one who will be running the blog.
I’ll need a little time to get the blog set up, but very soon I hope to have the prompt list up for critic and start making some polls to get an idea about what week of the year will be the best (so far I’m thinking like, a universal holiday week is best. that or just in the summer).
Honestly!
It's a good day to love sheith and their mutual love for one another! Remember not to let antis stop you from shipping what you love <3
