Cars Headcanon:

Sarge and Fillmore think they're being extremely subtle about their relationship. In reality everyone knows they're together but nobody's said anything cause they think they aren't trying to hide it

Meanwhile Sheriff and Doc think they're being super obvious, but in reality nobody has picked up on the fact they're together

The townies call them "Law and Order" when they're gossiping about the two together (i do too lol)

Somewhere between RS and the Butte, and a ways further out diagonally, there's a little grove where water trickles past, some run-off from Rio Del Radiador. It's nearly invisible from the flat land around and equally invisible from the cliffs, it's shadowy and cool and teeming with life. Sheriff and Doc find it one day, completely by accident. It becomes their favourite spot to get away from the town (especially when they're both younger and trying not to be discovered).

Doc and Sheriff don't live together, even when the whole town knows they're in a relationship. They talk about it a few times. But they're both on call 24/7, randomly getting up in the night to attend an emergency. Doc's shop is clean but his living unit is haphazard and messy. Sheriff prefers clear lines of sight and keeps his knick-knacks on shelves instead of scattering his hoard around. Also, Red would be pretty sad if Sheriff moved out of the council building. And his unit is far too small to fit Doc's personality all the time.

But, they do sleep over at the others' place, sometimes. Sheriff snores atrociously, according to Doc (Sheriff has never noticed it). Doc has occasional bouts of sleep-driving, and insomnia issues. Most of their nights together, Doc's got his lamp on and his book open while Sheriff kicks up a racket, curled so close to his side the snoring vibrates his entire body and makes his vision blurry.

Docs' temper tends to go off with no warning, they have a few rocky arguements when they start getting serious. It takes a little while, but Doc learns to ask for space when he's upset. Sheriff is more of an over-boiled pot, but he also learns to say what he wants. They'll annoy the other for fun, but Lightning is the first subject of a real arguement for decades, since Doc so adamantly refuses to explain himself. It's also the last arguement they ever have. (Even in the Revived AU probably)

Going further off into my head-canon, Sheriff actually took a while to suspect Doc was a racecar. His experiences with Austin, who was definitely not certified but still had a lot of racing characteristics, all made Docs' tells easy to miss. He does piece it together eventually, but he also never pries. They both have stories they'd rather not tell.

After Lightning happens, they do start opening up on those harder subjects. Doc was already happy, but now there's less bitterness, the walls are smaller. Sheriff is surprised to find that he's happier, too. Talking about that missing persons case is a weight off his chassis.

They look after each other, too. Doc is always running check-ups on Sheriff, fixing oil leaks, checking for worn bushes or soft hoses. Sheriff is the one continuously dragging him (and Lightning) away from the Butte for a quart, or a nap, or to clean the damn dirt out of his air filter.

Also, they call each other "Doc" and "Sheriff" all the time the same way parents call each other "Dad" or "Pop" or whatever. Every now and then one of them will say Hud or Mark and no one knows who they're talking to lol
