He liked to press an ear to the expanse of chest, bruised and red from his earlier attentions, and just listen to the steady sound of life beneath him. He liked to watch the rise and fall that came with breathing, and feel the little noises as he tugged at hair. Jim liked to be reassured that his pet was alive, that their Game wasn't over. And that the hands pushing him off in annoyance were real. As he grinned in a heap on the floor, as Sherlock turned to sleep, Jim could say he missed this.
